2004 Annual Report

The Devon Cricket Board – Coaches Association.

Due to a number of different circumstances the past twelve months has been perhaps the quietest period since the inception of the Board. The changes in the coach education syllabus was a major contributory factor in this situation as was an acute shortage of adequate facilities, exacerbated by the rebuilding of West Exe. This has created major problems with the implementation of our 2004/2005 Coach Education programme although we are still hopeful of running a Level II and continue to explore the possibility of running a new Coach Award Course before the season. Matthew Wood and Matthew Theedom, who completed the Level III with an excellent pass, have both successfully undertaken the tutor training for the new Coach Award and the county now have 8 qualified tutors. The Active Sport district programme has continued to be a vital part of the county squad coaching programme but  thought must be given as to how we will fill the huge financial void when, within two years, the contract comes to an end. Our Chairman, Roger Mann, instigated an interesting national media debate in connection with throwing which resulted in BSKYB visiting Barton C.C.

Despite reduced funding our annual accounts revealed a nominal surplus and the booking of facilities for two Coach Award Courses, Development Workshops and a Level II for 2005/2006 is already under way.
