Openers Chris Mole and Matt Hunt both got out to decent balls from Dan Belt and skipper Bob Dawson was arguably unlucky to be given out caught behind when there was a doubt if the ball had carried to keeper Chris Park.

The umpires consulted before Dawson was sent on his way, a sight which seldom inspires confidence in those watching.

Hancock looked what he is – Devon's most consistent batsman – as he compiled a top score of 65 off 84 ball with 10 fours and six which had to be retrieved from the beach.

Court made 27 – his stand of 67 with Hancock for the fifth wicket was Devon's best – but after they went it was all a bit of a non event.

Three wickets fell for just six runs, the last six for just 27, and that's why Dorset are one win away from Lord's and Devon aren't.

   Devon 179 (N D Hancock 65, D G Court 27; D Belt 4-24), Dorset 183-2 (G R Treagus 99no, T Webley 56). Dorset bt Devon by 8 wkts.
