KENYA
beat Devon by five wickets in a Twenty20 challenge match
at Exeter.
Having run
Kenya close at Exmouth the day before in a 50-over match,
when they only lost by 10 runs, Devon were optimistic
they could give the tourists a decent game.
But Devon's total of 117 for nine was never enough to
worry Kenya, who raced to 83 without loss in the first
10 overs.
When Devon turned to spin the chase slowed. Paignton's
James Hudson picked up four wickets for 15 runs in four
overs, but Kenya still got home with 10 balls to spare.
The damage had already been done by openers Morris Amollo
(56) and Kennedy Obuga (32)
Opener Rob Holman top scored for Devon with 28 off 34
balls – 27 of those runs coming from dabs and
nudges behind square either side of the wicket.
David Lye, who opened up with Holman, was in and out
by the third over for four – bowled having a swipe
trying to force the score along.
Holman and Steve Spoljaric pushed the score up to 51
before Holman tried to make room to slog spinner Aga
and drilled a gentle catch back to the bowler.
Spoljaric was out before another run was added: caught
behind playing a fending shot that caught the edge on
the way through to the keeper.
Acting captain James Hudson got on with it to score
21 off 20 balls. He aroused the crowd with two sixes
over mid-wicket, only to get out trying to hit a third
over long-off.
By the time Hudson was sixth out on 88, Devon had also
lost Marshall Hood and Sandy Allen.
Hood was bowled trying to make room for a pull while
Allen got himself out trying to play the reverse sweep.
Rob Newman ignored the old
adage never run a misfield when he was run-out having
had a life seconds earlier when bowler James Kamanda
dropped a catch off his own bowling.
Trevor Anning was less fortunate – Kamanda held
on when the ball came back to him this time –
and Chris Metters was unlucky to be stumped off a wide.
