STOKEINTEIGNHEAD made it though to the second round of the Brockman Cup when they beat South Devon by seven runs in a high-scoring game.

The Villagers raced to 31 without loss in the first three overs — a racing start that proved crucial.

Ian Shepherd (2-11) and Conrad Sutcliffe (2-36) got the brake on for a while, but Stoke kicked on again in the last five overs to reach 147 for seven.

South Devon were always behind the clock in reply, despite a 57-run opening stand between Matt Blackmore and Ben Chadwick in the first 10 overs.

Seventeen to win off the last over looked impossible, until Blackmore hit the first ball for six. Two balls later he was out, caught on the long-on boundary for 93 going for another six and Stoke closed the game out.

Elsewhere, Andy Lock had runs and wickets for Abbotskerswell in their win over Dartington, Gary Abraham hit 67 in Shaldon's 70-run win over Torquay and Sam de Friend took four wickets for five runs in Ipplepen's win over Chelston.
