DESPITE a century from Exeter's Robbie Holman, the Devon Dumplings fell to a 17-run defeat against Blundell's School in a 40-over match.
Blundelll's set the game up well with a total of 217 for eight, of which opener Sam Smith made 56 and Cameron Grainger and Tom Rossiter chipped in with useful knocks of 37 and 35, respectively.
For the Dumplings, Francis Pyle was economical with one for 28 off his 12 overs, while Phil Chappell claimed two for 43 and Prakash Joshi had two for 23.
Veteran keeper Geoff Husband bagged two stumpings.
The Dumplings lost skipper Andrew Parr early in the reply, but were going well at 98 for one when Duncan Fraser went for 37.
There followed a rapid slump to 111 for five as the middle order offered little support to Holman.
Pyle (20) played his part in a recovery stand of 47, but the innings then lost momentum, not helped by the school posting every fielder on the boundary when Holman was on strike.
Holman was eventually stumped off the penultimate ball, by when the game had got away from the Dumplings.
Blundell's School 217-8 (S Smith 56, C Grainger 37, T Rossiter 35, P Chappell 2-43, P Joshi 2-32), Devon Dumplings 200-8 (R Holman 115, D Fraser 37, R Longstreet 3-28, S Smith 3-26).
