THE Dumplings managed their first win of the season with a convincing 76-run victory over Kelly College at Tavistock

The Dumplings won the toss and chose to bat first, Gareth Tidball laying the foundation for the innings with some quality strokes in his 57.

David Manning batted well for 33, getting out just when he was beginning to accelerate the scoring rate.

However, it was Old Kelleian John McGahey who dominated with a well-compiled 58 allowing a declaration with a challenging total of 186 for nine on the board.

The bowling spoils were shared evenly when the school batted but the most encouraging spell came at the end with three overs by 16 year old James McGahey, when he cleaned up the tail with accurate seam bowling, taking three wickets for one run.

One of the highlights was the combination early in the innings by two senior Dumplings (ages totalling 120). Stuart Munday bowling with the accustomed subtle flight and variation persuaded the Kelly danger man to edge a very sharp chance to the gully where Peter Joliffe pouched the catch with consummate ease.

It was difficult to determine who was more surprised, the batsman or the bowler - certainly, the fielder reacted as though this was business as usual!

This prompted a steady fall of wickets which were shared evenly between Steve Dembitzer (2-16), Munday (2-23), Prakesh Joshi (2-10) and debutant James McGahey. The School were bowled out for 110 with 8 overs remaining.

Devon Dumplings 186-9 dec (David Manning 33, John McGahey 58, Gareth Tidball 57), Kelly College 110 (James McGahey 3-1, Stuart Munday 2-16, P Joshi 2-10, S Dembitzer 2-16).
