DEVON Dumplings played Old Vigornians for the first time when the former pupils of Kings School, Worcester toured the county to mark their 60th anniversary.

The game was played at Torquay, a venue the Dumplings haven't visited since 1953, when the home side bowled them out for 46!

The Old Boys won the toss and inserted the Dumplings in a 40-over game.

The opening pair of Graham White (83) and Simon Tapley (40) put on 95 to give the Dumplings an excellent start.

Later Giles Kernick (44 no) and David Jolliffe (24 no) combined in an unbroken sixth-wicket partnership to post a seemingly competitive score of 222 for five. The Old Boys' innings got off to a flying start with opener Mendham scoring 123, mainly in boundaries and combining in a second-wicket partnership of 93 with Richardson (41).

The Dumplings bowling was never quite up to the task although Jeffery Stanyer took 2 for 50 and suffered a dropped catch by the skipper which could have brought the Dumplings all-time record breaking wicket for him.

The Old Boys cantered to victory by six wickets with 7.1 overs to spare.

   Devon Dumplings 222-5 (G White 83, S Tapley 40, G Kernick 44no, D Jolliffe 24 no, D Mendham 2-33, T Race 2-29), Old Vigornians 225-4 (D Mendham 123, M Richardson 41; J Stanyer 2-50). Old Vigornians bt Dumplings by 6 wkts.
