EXETER'S Aussie opener Marshall Hood hit a magnificent 145 to lead the Devon Dumplings to a winning total of 258 for three against Wye Rustics.

In an all-day game at Exeter, the Rustics batted steadily, Martin Crowhurst's 41 seeing them to a lunch score of 113 for three.

Acceleration came in the afternoon session in the form of Pool's 51 not out, despite veteran Jeff Stanyer's restraining three for 64 off 18 overs.

The Rustics eventually declared on 257 for seven after batting for 64 overs.

The Dumplings' reply began badly with the early loss of Richard Pyle. After a solid 20 from Pete Jolliffe, Hood and Duncan Fraser (57no) took the game away from the Rustics.

Hood eventually fell for 145, leaving Guy Bucknall's lusty blows to see the Dumplings to their target with 2.5 of the last 20 overs to spare.

   Wye Rustics 257-7 dec (R Pool 51no, M Crowhurst 41; J Stanyer 3-64), Devon Dumplings 258-3 (M Hood 145, D Fraser 57no, G Bucknall 22no, P Jolliffe 20, J Dinnis 2-47). Devon Dumplings bt Wye Rustic by 7 wkts
