BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY CRICKET – MAY 7

NORTH Devon earned 20 North Devon League points on Bank Holiday Monday without playing as Sandford pulled out of a trip to Instow claiming team-raising problems.

“We got the call on Sunday evening, it's a great shame but we'll take the 20 points,” said North Devon's Richard Dart

There was a fourth win in six starts for Braunton in Division Two as they completed the double over Barnstaple & Pilton. Having already turned Barum over by 129 runs, they did it again by a margin of seven wickets. Ed Holmes had 3-29 as Barum were restricted to 180-8. Tom Popham (33), Steve Moore (31) and Frank Biederman (31) made runs for Barnstaple.

Braunton then won at a canter thanks to a superb 82 from Ian Roberts and an unbeaten 64 from in-form Andy Paddison.

That's three defeats in a row for Barnstaple & Pilton but they were cheered by some excellent bowling by three of their youngest players, George McEndoo and fellow colts Jamie Pow and Ian Wheatley, who sent down four early overs at a cost of just four runs!

Filleigh II are flying in Division Three after a third successive win. Martin Collier cracked seven sixes and nine fours in a splendid 91 and there was good support from Martin Bailey (37) and James Marsh (28) in a commanding total of 254-9.

Phil Venn bagged three wickets for Morebath and then top scored with 75 but that was very nearly half his sides total as their innings closed on 168, Andy Collier (3-22) and Nigel Head (3-25) doing damage with the ball.
