Marathon practice session raise £4,100 for new nets

HOWZAT for a great effort? A 24-hour session in the nets raised more than £4,000 for Torquay CC’s new practice facility.

Torquay’s nets at the Recreation Ground are being replaced in time for the new season by an £80,000 multi-purpose practice facility.

Club member from six to 70 and older turned up at Torquay Boys’ Grammar School to bat and bowl their way through the weekend.

The target was £4,000 and the actual figure of £4,178 exceeded all expectations.

“We had players as young as six years old as well as players into their 70s,” said organiser Joe Thompson.

“A few mums joined in the action as well.”

No one batted and bowled for the entire 24 hours, but a couple of players managed more than 15 hours.

“The effort by some of the junior players was immense,” said Thompson.

Players were kept nourished by regular pizza deliveries from Dominos, as well as home-made baking.

Players were kitted out for the first time in gear supplied by All Rounder Teamwear who are supplying the club on-line this season.
