Plymstock bring in Aussie duo

NEW Plymstock skipper James Nicholls has set a promotion target for the season ahead back in the B Division.

Two seasons after winning promotion into the A Division, Plymstock were relegated out of it last season.

When skipper Seb Jordan quit the post and the club midway through the season, former captain Dave Orchard stepped into the breech in the hope of saving the club.

Despite a fight that went all the way to the final day of the season, Plymstock went down with Braunton.

Nicholls said while he was sad to lose Dan Robotham and Olly Mulberry to Plympton, and Devon prospect Hal Kerton to Premier side Plympton, with two new overseas players on board he enters the new season optimistic.

“Being relegated wasn’t ideal but does give us the chance to rebuild and comeback stronger,” said Nicholls.

“The main aim is to build a solid team and get back up into the A Division at the first attempt.

“Dan, Olly and Hal have gone and obviously while it's a shame to lose anyone what we have in to replace is more than adequate.

“We have signed aggressive opener Jason Williams from Civil Service & Roborough, who looks in good touch at nets and I can't wait to see him in the middle.

“We also have two Australians coming over this year from Melbourne: Dean Fulco and Tom Te Whare from Eastern Hill CC.

“Dean will bat three and open the bowling and really does look like a good cricketer.

“Tom is a seamer who is also a lower-order batsman which will give us good options throughout the season.

“Both guys are A grade players and Tom has a Uk passport so both can play for the ones which makes my life a little easier.

“Having two Aussies around will be very useful for our colts too with their training throughout the year.”
