Filleigh batters smash D Division record

FILLEIGH skipper Simon Prideaux walloped a whirlwind ton as his side routed Ashburton by seven wickets.

Ashes made a respectable 241 for seven in 45 overs with in-form Ashley Harvey making 82 off 66 balls with four fours and five sixes.

Tom Durman made 52 and Kev Nicholls had 32 in an opening stand of 91 with Durman.

Filleigh didn’t just knock off the runs, they raced to victory at more than ten an over.

Ashburton might have thought it was their day after Durman (3-22) reduced Filleigh to 19 for three single-handed.

Then Prideaux and Mark Mbfona cut loose – and how- on their way to a record-breaking stand.

Prideaux slammed 18 fours and six sixes on his way to an unbeaten 122.

Mbfona had 88 off 59 balls with 14 fours and two sixes in a stand of 226 for the fourth wicket.

The old record of 174 belonged to Simon Gillespie and Terry Reynolds, who set it for Hatherleigh against Kilmington in 2009.
