SOUTH Devon Cricket Club held a presentation evening to recognise the achievements of its three youth teams during the season.

Former Devon captain Neil Hancock, who helped the 1st XI to promotion into the Francis Clark Devon League B Division, handed out the awards.

The most prestigious award went to U11 batsman Matt Millar, who was named junior player of the year in recognition of his batting average of 61.

Dave Leaman, the former fast bowler now youth chairman at the Newton Abbot club, said: “The evening closed what was a hugely successful season at junior and senior level for the club.

“We are looking forward to 2015 now and are delighted to announce that for any local youngsters who would like to play cricket, we will also be running an Under 10 team next summer.”

Thanks to the Chance to Shine programme, and the hard work of club volunteers, South Devon CC has restarted a youth section virtually from scratch over the past three years.

The club has recently had its accreditation renewed by the Devon Cricket Board as a well-run club with proper policies in place to grow the game.
