Caryl still taking wickets at 75

STILL going strong! Exwick cricketer Rehann Caryl won the club’s bowler of the season award at the ripe old age of 75.
Caryl, was Exwick 1^st XI’s leading bowler last season with 29 wickets as the 1^st XI won promotion from the Devon League F Division.
The retired lorry driver joined Exeter Civil Service around 40 years ago and has played for the same club ever since.
Civil changed their name to Exwick last season as the Civil Service set up in Exeter closed down.
Ironically, the only other club Caryl has ever played for on a regular basis was a previous club called Exwick, which became dormant some years ago.
Caryl (pictured) received his bowling award at the club’s annual dinner and presentation evening, hosted by Paul and Natalia Knott at the Thatched House pub in Exwick.
Kris Calderhead was voted as the 1st XI batsman of the year for scoring 440 runs.
Lewis Cox was voted as the 2nd XI bowler of the year taking 16 wickets,
Paul Mackie was voted as 2nd XI batsman of the year, scoring 494 runs and was overall player of the year.
Phil Walker won the Roy Erasmus Cup for the most improved player of the year. Tom Phillips was awarded the club person of the year.
The chairman's champagne moment of the year went to Doondee Tatieni for what was probably the slowest run-out in the history of cricket!

Ray Lloyd, the club chairman, told members the long-term future of the club was assured now agreements have been reached with Exeter College, who have taken over the former Civil Service ground at Foxhayes, and Exeter City Council.
“The plan is to move location to Exwick Playing Fields with a new cricket square and area,” said Lloyd.
“All the members are excited about the move and really looking forward to settling down at the new location.
“The club will still be playing at its current location - Exeter College Exwick Sports Hub - for the coming season.”
Once Christmas is out of the way indoor nets will commence early in the New Year.
Outdoor training, normally on Thursday evenings, will start when the evenings get lighter and the weather improves.
