Date set for funeral of David Jervois

A DATE has been set for the funeral of former Devon Cricket League president David Jervois.

Jervois, who died last week aged 86, helped to set up the competition in 1972 while he was secretary of South Devon CC. He served as league president from 1989 to 2002.

For exactly 50 years he was the secretary of Newton Abbot-based South Devon CC. He joined the club from North Devon in 1963 and became secretary the following year – a post he only relinquished in late 2014.

The funeral will take place at St John’s Church, Bovey Tracey on Tuesday, March 3 at 3pm. Fittingly, the church is next door to the town’s cricket pitch!

A private cremation is taking place before the service at the Devon & Exeter Crematorium.

Mourners will be welcome at a reception at the Ilsington Hotel after the church service.

Anyone planning to attend the reception is asked to contact South Devon CC chairman Barry Widdicombe so he can let the family know numbers to be catered for.

Widdicombe can be contacted on Newton Abbot (01626) 368258, or at Widdicombes@aol.com
