Blake in bed for a week after being hit by bouncer

SANDFORD 2nd XI player Chris Blake is going to be out of action for a while after being felled by bouncer in the defeat at Exeter.

Blake, who was skippering the side in the absence of Brian Leach, was batting against George Greenway when he was hurt.

Greenway, who had been dropped from Exeter’s 1st XI at the weekend, gave Blake a short ball to test him out.

Blake said he had no grouse with what happened next as it was just pure bad luck.

“I was wearing a helmet and the ball squeezed through the gap between the grille and the visor,” said Blake.

“It hit me in the right eye and down I went.

“I was taken to hospital where I had to have 14 stitches put in and around my eye.

“The doctors have told me I have to spend a week in bed taking it easy – not great when you have a farm to run”

A bad day all round for Blake and Sandford was completed by the result of the match.

Exeter made 240 for six and Sandford were bowled out for 46 in reply!
