Shobrooke still top despite defeat

SHOBROOKE Park stay top of the table in the B Division despite losing by six wickets in the derby clash with Thorverton.

Shobrooke struggled for runs from the start against Koby Griggs (3-25) and needed some lower-order hitting from Ben Trenaman (32) and Pete Turner (31no) just to reach 147 all out.

Will Denford (51no) anchored the chase for Thorverton, aided by James Maxwell at the end with an unbeaten 31.

“It was a very mature knock by Will and really saw us home,” said skipper Graham White.

“I think we are going to start climbing the table soon as we are looking a different team.

‘Gill Crouch is already back and from this Saturday we should have George Greed and James Hope batting at the top.

“With Dave Baldock back any time now from injury, I am confident we are on the up.”

Shobrooke remain top as results elsewhere were kind to them. However, their lead is down to just a point over Abbotskerswell.

Results were not kind for Thorverton though. They stay bottom as Braunton and Axminster beat high-fliers South Devon and Ipplepen respectively to stay ahead of them.

“It is a desperately tight division though,” said White. “There are only 39 points between top and bottom – and that can soon change in a league where everyone is beating everyone.”

Shobrooke will be looking to bounce back against Ivybridge this Saturday. Thoverton are at home to Axminster in a real basement clash.
