A CHARITY six-a-side cricket fun day hosted by Plympton CC raised £1,000 for charity.

Plympton have been hosting and end-of-season charity day for the past three years, raising money for a variety of good causes.

Previous beneficiaries have included the Snowdrop Appeal, the South West Children’s Hospice and a charity dealing with childhood spinal illnesses.

This year’s good cause was the Hearing Dogs for Deaf Appeal, a charity that trains dogs to help deaf people in their daily lives at home or work.

Marion Cutley, Doreen Bell, Rosemary Gates, Janet Owen and Leslie Andreassen from the Plymouth branch manned a stall at the competition.

Two groups of four teams dodged the showers to fight out the qualifying rounds.

The teams entered were The Old Smithy, P54 Pirates, Heles School Old Boys, Plymouth College, Plympton Veterans and Plympton, Plympton Hawks and Plympton Castles.

Plympton Hawke beat Plympton Castles in the final.

Andy Walter, the former Plympton captain who is the driving force behind the competition, said without generous donations of time and supplies the day would not be the success it has become.

“Big thanks to Marlene Walter, Kelly Walter and Nicky Dawe for sorting all the food on the day, Bev Walter for scoring and umpires, Paul Dawe, Dave Loynes, Danny Daniels and Kevin Robjohns,” said Andy.

“All the food was donated so there was no out-going costs.

“I would like to thank Ivor Dewdneys and Gribble’s Butchers for their support.”

The day’s events raised £788, which was rounded-up to £1.000 by a donation from Plympton CC.
