Shaldon add Alcock, Lockyer and Kiwi Thomas to squad

SHALDON will be fielding an overseas player this season following the arrival of New Zealander George Thomas.

The Optimists haven’t gone out looking for an overseas professional, but were more than happy to give a home to a young cricketer aiming to broaden his experience of the game.

And with experienced run getters James Fulner and Seamus McKenna now with Bovey Tracey, having a keeper who can bat is a bonus.

Having Thomas around will also allow Todd Balman to concentrate on batting maybe bowl too, rather than keeping wicket.

Shaldon have picked up all-rounder Andy Lockyer from Stoke, who is teaming up with his former Dawlish team-mates Karl Blackburn and Jamie Day one more time.

Shaldon reached the C Division last season after three successive promotions under skipper Craig Greenwood.

They stalled early in the campaign and once they realised promotion was out of the equation concentrated on getting the 2nd XI up a level.

It won’t be a surprise to see new skipper Mark Couch leading the side back up the table this season.
