Sidmouth and
Dartington & Totnes
2007 Champions
The Bob Bridges finals day at Paignton was fortunately one of the better summer days of an awful season. For the third year running Paignton were outstanding hosts providing a perfect environment and stage for the young cricketers of Devon to perform. The under 13 final between Sidmouth, who were due to play the hosts in the semi-final and Hatherleigh who beat Plymouth went right down to the wire. Hatherleigh batted first and utilised their full quota of overs in scoring 126. Sidmouth reached this target, not without some scares on the way in their final over thanks to an undefeated 58 from opener Sobzac. The second final between North Devon, who defeated Plymouth Civil Service, and Dartington and Totnes who beat Kentisbeare was not such a close affair as the North Devon side were a very young unit and deprived of their star all rounders – the Overton twins , who were trailing for the West of England. North Devon batted their 36 overs in scoring their 131 with Devon under 15 all rounder Ryan Stevenson their main adversary taking four wickets for 8 including a clean bowled hat trick with his first three deliveries. Ed Palmer (42), who had taken two wickets earlier, took on the pinch hitter role in reply as Dartington reached their target in 13 overs leaving captain Matthew Hickey and Stevenson undefeated in the thirties.
The Devon Cricket Board would thank the umpires, scorers and everyone else who made the finals day possible. |
