Sidmouth 2003 Champions

There was a disappointing entry of only 18 clubs for this year’s competition of whom 3 conceded to their opponents without even playing. Chudleigh CC who proved splendid hosts and made everyone very welcome hosted the final on August 3rd. Very many thanks to them for their hospitality. Congratulations to SIDMOUTH who, despite having to field a depleted team due to County requirements, proved too strong for CHUDLEIGH who could not turn ‘home’ advantage to good effect. Only one semi final was played with SIDMOUTH easy winners over last year’s runners-up, HATHERLEIGH. The second semi-final, which was scheduled to be played at South Devon’s ground, was a non-event as 2 quarter-finalists were unable to arrange a suitable date due to other commitments thereby leaving Chudleigh to progress to the final unchallenged. SIDMOUTH won by 9 wickets.

Final: CHUDLEIGH 95-5 (Knight 29 n.o. Barlow 2-10). SIDMOUTH 98-6 in18.4 overs (Barlow 43; Joy 2-15)

SIDMOUTH won by 4 wickets.

As ever it was a delight to see Mary Whitburn to present the Cup and Wyn Stutchbury to present the Walter Stutchbury Shield to the runners-up.
