disciplined Devon bowling attack, backed up by magnificent ground fielding and catching. Eliot Acton opened the bowling, then supported by Tom Whittle put Cornwall under pressure before the spinners Robbie Debenham 10.2.30.1, Gareth Tidball 9.0.26.2 and Joe Webb 10.1.24.5 weave their magic with Webb outstanding. In between Mark "Scrumpy" Orchard had to leave the field injured- use your hands- and Andy Buzza, the keeper calmly ran one of the Cornish batters out. Batting second and with the weather improving Devon needing only just over 3 an over, had no reasons to take risks and the openers Gareth Tidball and James Parkin played very sensibly almost until tea when with the score on 66 Tidball was out, caught for 18. After a magnificent tea, Parkin and Joe Webb then put on 89 in 23 overs before Webb took one risk too many and was bowled by Birt, Cornwall's best bowler for 38. Debenham followed but joined by Eliot Acton, James Parkin maturely saw Devon home to a well earned 7 wicket victory with 4 overs to go, 94 not out. Our sincere thanks to Mount Wise Cricket Club, Reg Manix for preparing the ground in difficult conditions and to Gavin Lane; to the Umpires and Scorers and to the parents, including Sue Tidball, for the splendid lunch and tea. Thank you to our match sponsors DML Sports and Social Club. |
