"Electrifying Robbie shocks Gloucestershire into defeat"

On an overcast day Devon continued their winning ways against Gloucestershire, at Hatherley & Reddings CC, Cheltenham, thanks to a fine innings of 74 by Robbie Debenham and another great all round TEAM performance. Put into bat on the best pitch they have played on all season

Devon's openers Gareth Tidball and James Parkin batted sensibly against good bowling putting on 44 in 14 overs. Together with Joe Webb, Parkin then put on 35 before Webb was out, shortly followed by Parkin for another super powerful 42. James Fletcher 25, back from Barcelona and Robbie Debenham then put on 51 in 11 overs batting beautifully against the spin by using their feet and with Fletcher setting the tone straight after lunch hitting the first ball for 4. After he was run out and with Devon looking for runs Eliot Acton was brilliantly caught on the deep leg boundary, one handed as the ball was going for 6 by Kirkby. Robbie Debenham and Scott Boardman put on 52 for the 7th wicket and the lower order as they can then made a significant contribution taking Devon to 228-9 off their 50 overs, with Andy Buzza and Mark Orchard both not out.The best opening spell of the season saw Scott Boardman pitch the ball up and swing it, whilst Eliot Acton bowled with pace, both giving no width. Helped by the other bowlers including Harry Champan- Walker's first real spell since injury and once more outstanding fielding, the talented Josh Reid was restricted and frustrated to 28 off 21 overs before he became the first of Joe Webb's 3 victims. Webb and Debenham, then Tidball applied the pressure with their spin and although Gloucestershire enjoyed some success middle innings with the opener Currell eventual out for 64, once he was gone the introduction of Whittle and Orchard soon brought the match to a conclusion in the 46 over, both taking two wickets. Gloucestershire all out 176 and Devon winning by 52 runs.  In good spirit Devon go to the ESCA Under 14s Taunton Festival next Monday. Thanks to all at Hatherley & Reddings CC and Ahub Khan for the day.
