"Devon's Early Scrumpy Wicket keeps Shropshire Bottled Up"

A change of plan sees Mark "Scrumpy" Orchard and Harry Chapman-Walker open the bowling and both repay the coach's faith with Scrumpy bowling a "cox" and Buzz taking a good catch and Harry bowling 5 overs for 4 runs. All change from days 1 and 2!!     8-1

becomes 19-2 when Parky swoops at mid-on and hits the stumps with a direct hit and Tom replaces Harry and nips one back and it is 42-3. It is then 48-4 when Eliot bowls a perfect yorker. Confusion and Scott calmly throws the ball to Ollie for another run out.Joe Webb then bowls 10.4.13.1 which keeps the pressure on Shropshire and Robbie Debenham is back to his best taking 2 wickets including the last wicket a sharp catch by Harry at silly mid off. Robbie was even seen to dive in the field and managed to deflect a ball onto the stumps whilst bowling effecting a run out- the second time this batsman had been run out like this in two days! Shropshire all out for 97 so extra bowling points gained thanks to good bowling and intense aggressive fielding.

After 10 overs we are 33-1. It should be a stroll? James P hits then hits the spinner to cover and is out for the top score of the match 19. Webby gets stuck against the spinners and edges behind- next time be more positive Joe. We then have an unusual event involving overthrows and Scott then being given out LBW when he was at the wrong end or was he or was it 7 runs- who knows? Robbie soon departs and it is getting a bit hairy! But Ollie and Eliot ride their luck and see us home with 20 overs to spare. Phew!

We must all learn from how we approached chasing a low total- we must be more positive, look to score runs, singles particularly, hit the bad balls and put the pressure on the opposition not ourselves. (Read on especially Dorset and Somerset). Devon win by 5 wickets making it 3 out of 3.
