they would have put them in! Early signs indicate that the pitch is poor. Harry Chapman-Walker strikes in the 3rd over and in his 5th bowls a shooter which not even a pick and shovel would have have helped! Scott Boardman then bowls a slow long hop which the Somerset batsman tries to wipe to leg and is bowled. 23-3 off 8 overs. Scrumpy comes on and hits the pitch hard, nipping the ball around. It soon becomes 28-4 and then Eliot Acton from the other end bowls an in swinger which keeps going and it is 29-5! Scrumpy bowls the no 6 and with all the pressure the no 7 is calmly run out by Tom Whittle who gently throws it to Buzz who takes the bails off in slow motion. Scrumpy then bowls his 3rd victim, Eliot strikes again with a flier which Buzz takes and Harry raps it up with his first ball of his new over. Somerset all out 56 in 21 overs and still half an hour until lunch- the benefits of putting it in the right place on a poor pitch! Not a spinner in sight!! Having chased low totals several times this season on slow low pitches, Devon knew that they had to play straight and on the front foot if at all possible, be positive and run the ones and two and put away the bad ball. All went well until the 4th over when Gareth Tidball is run out- calm down Phil! James Parkin and Joe Webb carefully take the score to 22 in the 14th over when Joe decides to give the keeper catching practice and he obliges. The ever reliable James Fletcher, calm as ever, then joins Parky who starts to punish the bad ball before Fletch hits the winning runs to see Devon home with 29 overs to spare. A fantastic way in which to round off a brilliant season. Played 13. Won 9. 1 Winning Draw. 3 Lost. Who would have believed it at the start of the season. Job well done- the TEAM of 2004. Thank you ALL including the parents and grand parents. Together Everyone Achieved More
