"Determined Devon Defeat Wiltshire"

In picturesque Biddestone, Devon won another close match against Wiltshire thanks to a determined all round performance. Put into bat on a pitch affected by the weather Devon lost James Parkin early but Gareth Tidball (20) and Joe Webb recovered the position and put on 40 for the 2nd wicket.  James Fletcher (23) and

Robbie Debenham (34) then put on 62 for the 5th wicket. Debenham was out just before lunch which brought Eliot Acton to the wicket. At 138-4 at lunch

Devon immediately pushed on afterwards with Acton hitting the first ball for 4 and setting the tone.

Unfortunately he was out for an exciting 30 with 7 overs to go and with controlled bowling, aided by the slow pitch and indifferent batting, Devon  were restricted to a 187 by Wiltshire off their 50 overs.

Despite a disappointing opening spell, Devon's spinners gradually gained control after Wiltshire's openers Glover and Pearce had put on 78 for the first wicket in 16 overs.

Aided by inspired fielding which put immense pressure on Wiltshire, Tom Whittle effecting one run out and Gareth Tidball another direct hit, Joe Webb 2-36, Robbie Debenham 2-23 and Gareth Tidball 1-10 span their way through the Wiltshire order, with Mark "Scrumpy " Orchard nipping in for his customary wicket before Eliot Acton tore the tail apart with a devastating short spell of quick bowling. Wiltshire all out 142 in 46 overs. Devon winning by 45 runs.

Thanks to Mike Smith, the umpires and Biddestone CC.
