David Wrench. Will Murray won the toss and on a slightly damp track and weather threatening inserted Gloucester. Joel Seward swung the ball both ways and removed the openers before Chappell then took wickets in his second and third overs. Jennings (58) and King (62) regained the initiative by taking the attack to Devon putting on 108 for the 5th wicket before thirteen year old Joe Webb had Jennings caught at mid wicket with his 5th delivery and then Wrench nipped out King 3 balls before lunch. Gloucester then lost their last 4 wickets for 33 runs as Devon bowled to plan and Seward and Chappell finished off the tail. 220 all out possibly below parr at Blundells. The feline Chappell, (sporting a new hair do!), as he has all season bowled beautifully and fully deserved his 5 wicket haul. Charles Martin and Gary Chappell achieved their first 2 goal scoring at 4 an over, scoring 43 off the first 10 overs and an opening stand of 65 in 15 overs. Devon then lost 2 quick wickets before Will Murray and Chappell put 32 in 6 overs and when Wrench came to at 102 for 4 there were 27 overs left. He played straight, particularly off the back foot and punished anything short by pulling it, hitting 17 x 4s and 1x 6. He reached his 50 in 60 minutes off 49 balls and went onto his 100 in 104 minutes off 91 balls. Dan Hardy in his first real bat of the season supported David very ably and together they put on 98 for the 5th wicket in 20 overs. When Dan was out Ollie Robinson hit two 4s before Danny Carroll finished the game off with Wrench.Devon won by 4 wickets with 5 overs left. Thanks to Blundells, the Umpires, Jon Nicholls for scoring and Mrs Murray and all the parents for the tea. Devon Under 14s go to the ESCA Under 14 Festival at Taunton undefeated- a significant achievement that the players should be very proud of. |
