Devon
Under 15s v Gloucestershire Under 15s
County Championship 13th June 2003 Sidmouth
CC
An
outstanding performance against a strong Gloucestershire side which means
that Devon have a maximum 40 points from their first two games in this
competition.
Gloucestershire
batted first and came under immediate pressure due to some excellent bowling
by Ross Acton and Jack Porter. This set the tone for the rest of the innings
and at one stage Gloucestershire were reduced to 49 for 6.
They were bolstered by a patient 68 from England batsman Reuben Reid who
was forced to bat out of character in order to try and ensure a
defendable total. They were eventually dismissed for 142 (Jon Raistrick
4
for 33) which looked below par on a good pitch.Devon's fielding was of
a
very high quality and Justin Yau gave an outstanding display behind the
stumps.
In reply Devon always looked in control despite at one stage being 68
for 4. A superb innings of 53* by Matthew Cooke well supported by Steve
Knight ensured that Gloucestershire were given no further grounds for
optimism. The required runs being achieved with plenty of time and overs
to spare.
