Inter District Under 15 Reports 7th May 2006

North v West – West won by 30 runs

In bright sunshine the West won the toss and batted in excellent conditions. The West dominated the first twenty overs as the North disappointed during this period by which time the West openers had put on 111. Heather Knight (58) and Tom Borrow (74) eventually put on 129. Drinks brought a transformation with off spinner Matt Clarke (4-24 off 10) and leg spinner Henry Mcendoo (3-25 off 10) putting the brakes on before David Binns and Alex Wilson-North finished off the West bowling them out for 186 with three overs unused.

In reply the home side tried to grind out a win but lost early wickets. Will Barratt was defiant scoring 38 in a long stay at the crease. Whilst Barratt and Scott Tremain were batting a win looked possible. Unfortunately Tremain was caught by Ferrao off Tom Cross and Alex Lewis-Ranwell was run out for a bright 22. This brought Henry Mcendoo to the wicket and he struck a carefree 33 off 22 balls before he was last out with the score on 156. Tom Cross took 3-27 for the West with Abraham and Yates picking up 2 wickets apiece. Barnstaple and Pilton were outstanding hosts.

East v South – East won by 73 runs

The East lost an early wicket when Smith mistimed a pull off the South’s opening bowler Shergold. But Luke Bess (84) and Justin Williams (20) put on 90 for the second wicket. The momentum was maintained right through the innings with Denford making 34 in a final total of 269-8 was a satisfactory return. The South maintained a high standard in the Matthew Beer having the best return of 5-53 off nine overs.

An early run out was not the ideal start for the South who were reduced to 30-2 but they recovered well through a third wicket partnership of 71 by Rob Shergold (38) and Chris Metters (42). This was followed by a clatter of wickets which left the visitors in some trouble at 121-7 with spinners Sam Smith (2-22) and Justin Williams (3-43) doing the damage. The South fought back with Hawkins (35) and Thomas (26) almost saving the game. The return of Shane Evenden for the last over proved decisive as he bowled the last two batsmen to end with 3-20.
