MCC Under 13s

The 2006 Season

Due to fixture congestion and the weather a toss had to come into operation for the Kentisbeare / North Devon tie. It game down heads and North Devon go through.

Paignton are the first side through to the semifinals with a 109 run win over Harberton. Batting first  Ashworth, Bryan and Watton all had to retire on reaching 30 add in 38 extras and 23 from Benton they amassed 180 - 3. Any chase at 9 an over would require a major innings but it was extras that topped score on 27 with 22 from Bemiah was as good as it got Harberton's 71 all out with Benton taking 3-13. This was Harberton's first venture into this competition and they made good progress until being confronted by a strong unit. Paignton's opponents in the semi-finals will be Plymouth who beat Brixham in the quarter final clash at Peverall Park. Plymouth batted first scoring 128-3 with both openers, Jackson and Dawe, retiring on reaching thirty. Brixham's Clarke also retired on 30 in their final score of 81-4. The second semi-final will be between Hatherleigh and Sidmouth after Hatherleigh's game with North Devon was quickly completed as the loosing side were restricted due to school committments to just six men and were bowled out in four overs for 8. It took Hatherleigh a similar number of overs to pass their target losing two wickets.

The final will be held at Heathcoat C.C. on Sunday 9th July 10.00am start and will be between Hatherleigh, who defeated Sidmouth and Paignton who overcame Plymouth. Plymouth were 74-9 after 20 overs. Connor Bryan was undefeated on 30 and George Benton scored 20.

The second semi-final has been described as a great game of cricket and containing everything the MCC would be seeking in their Spirit of Cricket competition. Hatherleigh graciously conceed that perhaps the better side lost!! Sidmouth batted first scoring 154 with Zak Bess undefeated on 31, extras reaching 37 and four other batters reaching double figures. Andrew Collier took 3-27.  With four balls left Hatherleigh passed their target with the last pair at the crease. Their Man of the Match Collier was unbeaten on 39 with five others also making a contribution in double figures. Sidmouth's top player was C.Miles and he nearly turned the game in their favour with a spell of 4-1-14-5 including 3 in 4 balls. Sidmouth were superb hosts on a great fun morning for Devon youth cricket. Paignton won the final chasing 109 without loss - REPORT
