It was right down to the wire when Brixham visited Plymouth and this tied game was decided in the favour of the side who had lost the fewer wickets - Brixham. The home side batted first and scored 82 -9 with Ben Robbins (21) scoring one run more than extras. R.Downes took 3-4 off four overs and C.Eaves had figures of 3-6 off his two overs. In reply Dan Clarke scored 28 and C.Sleep 18 but the Plymouth Man of the Match Ben Ferrao made life difficult by taking 4-13 in his four overs. Clarke's innings won him the Brixham nomination as their player of the game. Plymouth Civil Service came second in their away trip to Paignton. The home side batted first and Jack Dent removed Gilmour at 3 and were in some difficulty at 45-6 with no batsmen reaching double figures but Carl McFarlane (11) and Richard Ashworth (16*) eased the pressure and thanks to 22 extras they reached 81- 8. Rob Bennett took 2-18 off three and Alex Yates 2-17 off four. The ten man Plymouth side were in a similar position at 40-7 but did not recover to be all out for 48 in 17 overs. Their Man of the Match Tom Cross scored 14 with 11 from Jack Dent. The home sides player of the game Mark Gilmour took 3-7 in four overs and new county player Rob Shergold took 2-6 in his full quota. It was a rather one sided encouter between Heathcoat and last season's champions Sandford. The Tiverton side scored 147-3 with all of their batters getting into double figures with Peter Randerson undefeated on 48. Mike Walker weathered the storm best for the visitors going at five and a half an over. Sandford reached 62-8 at the end of their twenty overs with Jack Niven the most successful batter with 17 and extras adding 26. Tom Boxall took 3-7. The North Devon derby at Bideford saw the home side progress into the quarter finals with a 74 win over Barnstaple. Bideford scored 166-2 with Matt Clarke and Billy Curtis retiring on 51 and Will Barrett undefeated on 38. In reply Barnstaple were bowled out for 88 with Dan Brierly scoring 25. The semi-finalists from the North and East section of the draw have been determined with Bideford beating Torquay by 5 wickets and Heathcoat defeating Axminster by 146 runs. The long trip by Torquay resulted in the bay side scoring 105 -6 with Matt Thompson undefeated on 30 and Crooks also scoring 30. Matt Clarke took 3-18 and Jos King 2-5. Bideford reached their target for the loss of 5 wickets thanks to 48 from Simon Dark. Ellie Fielding took 3-22 and B.Ivey 2-36. It must have been hard work for the Cloakham Lawn team who were taken for 228-2 by Heathcoat. Denford, Evenden, Williams all retired on reaching 50. Axminster were dismissed for 82 with Dan Turner top scoring on 24 and Toby Lett taking 3-27. |
