Gloucestershire v Devon Report

McKenna ‘lightning' strikes twice

For the second successive game a blistering knock from Torquay's Seamus McKenna gave Devon their fourth straight win over Gloucestershire.

On a beautiful day at Thornbury Cricket Club, Gloucestershire won the toss and elected to bat. On a pitch that always offered something to the bowlers they struggled to make any real impact as disciplined and penetrative bowling saw Devon take wickets on a regular basis.

Jamie Overton and Jack Richardson opened up for Devon and bowled tidily without taking a wicket. The first wicket fell at 28 as Ford was bowled by Craig Overton who followed this up by taking a second in his fourth over. Merrick Steward was applying pressure at the other end with straight and accurate bowling.

The spinners then came on to bowl and together took five wickets. Matt Golding claimed 3-36 from his ten overs, Edward Woolcott did a good job with his left arm spin whilst Max Curtis took 3-18 with his off spin. Craig Overton came back on to claim a third wicket as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 123 in 40.1 overs.

Devon 's reply was a stuttering affair with no meaningful partnerships as wickets fell on a regular basis. Matthew Golding looked to have conquered the demons in the pitch as he made 22 in a partnership with pocket battleship Mckenna but when he was bowled Devon were 79-5. Jamie Overton soon followed and Seamus was joined by Amara Carr. Together they added 29 for the 7 th wicket as McKenna finished unbeaten on 49 from 38 balls with Carr unbeaten on 9.

A second consecutive win which gets Devon off to a good start in 2006.
