Brown and Mitcham century stand gets Devon off to winning start The opening day of the ESCA Festival saw Kent win the toss and elect to bat. Pitch 6 is well known for its high scoring games and this was no exception. Devon had Kent reeling at 12-3 but a fine unbeaten 149 from Jack Masters, who would later go on to add three more centuries during the week saw Kent to a formidable 267 all out. All credit to the Devon bowlers who toiled away hard in the heat, Barny Huxtable picked up 3-17, Ryan Skinner 2-38 and Ned Menheneott 2-44. The Devon reply stuttered a little but still managed to get to 71 in the 21st over. A fine century partnership (137) between Tom MItcham (83) and Alex Brown (62) laid the base for winning challenge which saw Cameron Grainger squirt one down to 3rd man to win the game in the last over for Devon. A super opening day performance which laid the standards for the rest of the week. |
