Devon gain revenge In a reverse of the match played at Weliington College Devon gained sweet revenge with a convincing win over Berkshire. After asking Berkshire to bat everything was looking fine as Berkshire were reduced to 56-4 in the 17th over. There was a wicket apiece for Rebecca Donohue, Ryan Skinner, Chris Sanders and Zak Bess. Thereafter the batsmen dominated with stands of 90 and 59 as Berkshire set Devon 206 to win Having only scored above 200 on one occasion this season it would require a good effort from the home batsmen to reach their target. The early loss of Tom Mitcham set Devon on their heels, however Henry Bennett and Freddie Gabbitass did their jobs as they got past the opening bowlers adding 40 runs. The loss of both in quick succession was another blow, however, one thing that this side has done well this season is recover from the loss of early wickets and post big partnerships to turn games. This time it was the turn of Alex Brown who was joined by skipper Zak Bess as they took the score to 97-3 at tea. With twenty overs remaining Devon required 109 to win from the resumption. Both batsmen batted quite beautifully after tea as the score rattled along at nearly six an over. Bess was to perish 3 short of his half century but Brown went on to make an unbeaten 78 as he was joined by George Stephenson to leave Devon winners by 6 wickets. |
