Devon v Gwent at Braunton C C 28th June 2005 |
|||||
Devon batted first in the knowledge that bad weather was on its way. What followed was one of the finest individual innings from a player representing Devon for a very long while. Alex Brown came to the crease in the 9th over having seen both openers depart. He started calmly enough and together with Chris Kelmere (18) advanced the score to 62 before Kelmere was bowled. He then shared in two century partnerships, first with Zak Bess (25), they added 103 for the 4th wicket and then with Cameron Grainger (46) where they added a further 104. The Devon innings finally closed on 319-7 from 45 overs. Alex Brown was undefeated on 164, he had hit 31 fours and faced 123 balls, an outstanding brutal knock the like of which we will have to wait a long time to see again. Sadly the rains came and the match had to be abandoned as a draw with Gwent on 31-0 in the 12th over. |
