Chagford Cricket Club provided a superb setting for the first game of the 2004 season. Lancashire won the toss and batted but found runs difficult to come by against some accurate bowling and keen fielding. Driver (31) and Buckley (30) were the only batsmen to make any impression and Lancashire were bowled out for 108 in 39.2 overs.
Devon's reply started in similar fashion and at 38-4 the game was very much in the balance. However an excellent fourth wicket partnership between Will Murray (44) and Seb Benton restored Devon's ascendancy and the game was won by 5 wickets in 38 overs.
