DEVON WON BY 10 RUNS
As ever we were made very welcome at Seaton CC and the players were grateful for a good pitch which provided an excellent contest between bat and ball.
Devon won the toss and chose to bat. They were given a good start by Tom Mitcham and Zak Bess who put on 64 for the first wicket. Mitcham went on to make a valuable 70, and a pleasing aspect of the innings was that everyone who batted made a significant contribution to a total of 254 in the 50 overs.
In reply Hampshire lost their first wicket at 48 in the 13th over. This was followed by a really outstanding partnership between Hind (106) and Stone (72) who put on 147 for the second wicket, and they threatened to take the game away from Devon. However, as is often the case, they were dismissed within eight runs of each other. New batsmen found scoring at seven an over difficult against some good bowling and keen fielding, and wickets fell regularly until Hampshire finished just 10 runs short in their allotted overs. Credit to the Hampshire players who made a good effort to chase a very demanding target.
A really excellent game of cricket and a result which set up a crucial last game in the group against Somerset.
