MCC Spirit of Cricket Under 13 Cup Hatherleigh 2003 Champions The early rounds of this nationwide cup are now in progress and the first scalp fell to South Devon who defeated Barton by just 9 runs. South Devon scored 103-9 with Grainger scoring 23 and Metters retiring on 35. Barton's Whittle took 5-16 off his four overs. Barton were 94--6 after their 20 overs, opener Lennon scored 25. South Devon are now away to Mount Wise. Filleigh's long trip to Axminster was not rewarded with a win as they came second by 53 runs. The home side batted first scoring131 off their 20 overs with Walker, Murmane and Hore all retiring on 30. Filleigh scored 78 with Kalsi retiring on 30 and the visitors sharing the batting around. Axminster used nine bowlers. At Queens Park Paignton defeated Kingsbridge by 10 runs, the home side batted first and were 74-6 at the end of their twenty overs with extras the highest scorer on 27. Kingsbridge's captain James Fletcher retired on 30 in the visitors response of 64-7. Mark Gilmore took 4-4 included the hat trick. Ivybridge beat the weather and Brixham by 12 runs to move into the first round proper and a short trip to Plymouth. Extras topped scored in both innings with David Willacy retiring on 30 in the Ivybridge score of 126 with Warden scoring 20. Brixham'sreply revolved around 23 from Jenkins, 18 from Orchard and Dallow was undefeated on 19 with his side just 12 short of their target. Chudleigh and Ipplepen featured in a real nail biter with Chudleigh coming out winners as both sides scored 91 but Chudleigh had lost two fewer wickets in reaching their total. Ward top scored for Chudleigh with 24 as Felton, Marsdon and Samson all took two wickets for Ipplepen. Marsdon scored 31 in Ipplepen's reply as they lost four wickets in scoring six runs. Ball took 3-16 but the big difference between the teams were the extras conceeded Ipplepe's 24 to Chudleigh's 7 The 2002 Devon champions Mount Wise were beaten by 8 wickets by South Devon. Mount Wise scored 51 all out with Heather Knight top scoring on 16 and Metter, Grainger and Littlechild taking 2 wickets a piece. South Devon lost two wickets in reaching their target with Littlechild and Grainger reaching double figures. Marc Webber took 2 wickets. |
