Week 10
Plympton's ambitions of winning the Under 11 Palladium Cricket League look to be fading after they suffered defeat against fellow title challengers Whitchurch Wayfarers. Plympton batted first and found scoring runs hard to come by. T.Rossouw was the only Plympton batsman to put together any substantial innings with a unbeaten 13. L.Cummings led the way with the bowling for Whitchurch recording figures of 4 for 10, reducing the Plympton innings to 154 at the end of play.Whitchurch got off to a good start thanks to L.Northmore 19 not out. C.Barriball later on in the innings sealed the win for Whitchurch with a free hitting innings of 38 not out, handing his team a 128-run win.
Yelverton kept up their own impressive season with a win over Ivybridge Falcons. Yelverton batted first and were able to score steady runs thoughout their innings. J.Douie's innings of 20 not out helped Yelverton finish at the halfway point on 262. In reply the Falcons batted well and kept up with the Yelverton score. P.Williams, at the end of the innings, scored a good 17 not out but this didn't prove to be enough as the Falcons fell 29 runs short of their target.
In the battle of the bottom two clubs Tavistock pulled off their first victory of the season thanks to a 64 run win over Cornwood Girls. Tavistock went into bat and thanks to B.Rodgers 15 not out and L.Smith 23 not out reached their highest score of the season of 269.In reply Cornwood Girls found the Tavistock bowlers in form with good line and length. L.Smith capped off a impressive man of the match performance for Tavistock by only conceding one run off his 3 overs which helped lead his team to victory by 64 runs.
In a one sided game but played in a good spirit Cornwood Oaks proved too strong for Ivybridge Eagles, winning by 103 runs. Oaks took to the field first and thanks to C.Taylor 3 for 13 reduced the Eagles to 167 at the changeover. After the break J.Reid led the Oaks with a good unbeaten 22. A Boast of the Eagles did give his team a glimmer of hope in the early stages of the game following figures of 1 for 13 but couldn't prevent his team going down by 103 runs.
Plymstock's game with Plymouth Mount Wise went down to the last ball at Deans Cross. Mount Wise batted first and thanks to L.Edmonds 17 not out reached a final total of 226. Mount Wise bowled well and thanks to N.Martin's figures of 2 for 11 they were always in with a chance of securing the victory, but an unbeaten innings of 22 from D.Mulberry proved to be the telling factor, handing Plymstock the narrowest of victories by three runs.
In the quarter-final of the Under 11 Palladium League Cup tournament Cornwood Dales booked their place in the semi-finals thanks to an 11-run victory over Plymouth Peverall. Cornwood Dales now await the winners of the Yelverton v Plymstock quarter-final game.
