For the third year running the inclement weather has disrupted the start of the under 11 season fixtures, with only 5 games out of 14 managing to beat the weather.

Last years defending champions got off to a good start after a victory over local rivals Yelverton Hurricanes.  Whitchurch Wayfarers batted first and were kept to a modest score of 212.  S.Skelton was the pick of the Yelverton bowlers taking figures of 3-2-2-4

In reply Yelverton batted steadily but thanks to tight bowling by C.Hodges 3-1-2-4 Yelverton fell 11 runs short of the 213 required for victory.

Yelverton Hurricanes did manage to kick start their season with a resounding victory over Cornwood Oaks by 67 runs.  31 Extras bowled by the Cornwood Oaks bowlers proved to be the difference between the two teams and 2 wickets for 6 runs by Yelverton’s M.walker help reduce Cornwood Oaks to only 203 off their 20 over’s.

In other games a promising young Tavistock team overcame Plympton St Mary by 51 runs after Tavistock reduced Plympton to 176 off their 20 over’s.  In reply Tavistock reached 227 to win their first game of the season.

Ivybridge Falcons got the better over their South Hams rivals Cornwood Delamore thanks to a 46 run victory.  Falcons S.Barnes produced match winning bowling figures of 4-2-6-4.

Plympton St Maurice & Plymouth Peverell took part in a close fought contest.  The match went down to the final over with both teams looking to claim victory.  Plympton St Maurice though just had too much for Plymouth Peverell and eventually ran out winners by 6 runs.

 

Yelverton Hurricanes completed a resounding victory over a young Plympton St Mary team.  Yelverton never let the Plympton batsman settle and wickets fell at regular intervals.  Plympton closed their innings on 165 with J.Watt 3 for 5 and S.Skelton 2 for 1 being the pick of bowlers.  In reply Plympton got off to a good start thanks to J.Smith 2 for 19, but good innings from W.Hadow 17* and B.Grove 14* saw Yelverton take charge of the game leading to 93 run win victory.

Cornwood Dels proved to strong for Tavistock following a 66 run victory.  Dels opened the batting and had M.Hill 16*, J.Richardson 21 and M.Petherbridge 15* to thank for reaching a creditable score of 277 at the end of their innings.  Tavistock never got hold of their innings with J.Richardson 3 for 9 completing his Man of the Match performance this time with the ball.  34 extras and a solid  innings by G.Cottrill 12* helped Tavistock reach a respectable final total of 211.

 Cornwood Girls were left still searching their first win of the season after visiting Plymstock.  Cornwood batted first and reached reached 177 at the end of their innings.  E.Giles was the pick of the girls batters with 10*.  F.Cowen 3 for 1 was the pick of the Plymstock bowlers.  Plymstock did not have everything their own way with J.Jones 2 for 1 making life difficult for the Plymstock batters.  B.Russell 14* proved to be the difference between the two teams and helped guide Plymstock to a final total of 217 and a 40 run victory.

 Ivybridge Falcones proved to strong with a 100 run victory over their opponents Yelverton Mosquitoes.  S.Barnes 11* helped Ivybridge on to a final total of 273.  In reply tight bowling from J.Cronin 2 for 4 kept the Yelverton batters from gathering any momentum and left Yelverton finishing on 173.

 L.Edmonds produced a Man of the Match performance for Plymouth Peverell recording bowling figures of  3 for 7 in a final total of 216 for opponents Ivybridge Eagles.  L.Edmonds 17* finished off a great performance on the way to his team final total of 281,  completing a 65 run victory.

 Plympton St Maurice picked up their second victory of the season following a 85 run victory over Plymouth Mount Wise.  51 Extras bowled by Mount wise helped the Plympton score onto 253 at the change over.  In reply good bowling by M.Borbon 3 for 10, K.Cooper 2 for 8 and O.Maynard 2 for 14 reduced Mount Wise to 168 after their 20 overs and completed the comfortable victory for Plympton.

.Ivybridge Falcons recorded their third win of the season away to Plympton St Mary to send themselves joint top of the under 11 league.   Plympton St Mary batted first but were soon put on the back foot thanks to a tight spell of bowling by J.Cronin 2 for 11 & S.Williams 2 for 6. Plympton's batsman M.Crumley 12* batted gamely to bring his team to a credible 205 at the change over.  In reply Ivybridge got off to a good start, and only lost 3 wickets in the first 15 overs  J.Walliker 24* while S.Courtney 2 for 13 was St Mary top bowler.  Ivybridge finished off their innings on 286 and completed a 81 run victory. 

Yelverton Hurricanes recorded their third win of the season making it 3 wins out of 4 this season. Yelverton batted first against Cornwood Dels who made a great start taking 4 wickets in the first 5 overs, but to many extras (50) were bowled by the Dels and a unbeaten 14 by H.Dunlop helped Yelverton on to a final total of 260.  After the break the Yelverton bowlers took charge of the game with M.Smith 3 for 10, J.Watt 2 for 9, M.Walker 2 for 1 and  H.Dunlop 3 for 6 completing his Man of the Match performance.  Cornwood finished off their innings on 170 handing a 90 run victory to Yelverton Hurricanes which moved them into the joint top spot in the league.At the Ring Tavistock played host to a young Yelverton Mosquitoes squad .  Yelverton batted first and gave a commendable performance, against a strong bowling line up for Tavistock.  A.Caines 2 for 7 and E.Lamerton 2 for 11 helped keep the Yelverton score down to 201 at the end of their 20 overs. After the change over B.Milligan 10* and T.Carter 9* got the Tavistock innings off to a great start but tight bowling from D.Farnham 1 for 2 and B.Marks 1 for 2 meant the game went down to the last over with both teams looking for the victory.  In a tense final over Tavistock managed to hold their nerve finishing the innings on 213 giving them a 12 run victory over their local rivals. Plympton St Maurice batted first against Plymstock and had D.Hussey 11* K.Cooper 16* to thank for reaching their final of 250.  In reply S.Hayes batted gallantly for Plymstock top scoring with 19*.  Good bowling from St Maurice bowlers J.Smith 2 for 2 and M.Smith 2 for 2 kept Plymstock down to 200 at the end of their innings, handing a 50 victory to Plympton St Maurice.

The Under 11 league saw its first of 7 inter club games this season when Plymouth Mount Wise played counterparts Plymouth Peverell.  Plymouth Mount Wise batted first and soon found the Peverell bowlers on top form.  M.Bryant 4 for 7 was the pick of the bowlers while D.Goodey 2 for 7 and R.Callicott 2 for 3 helped reduce the Mount Wise innings to 194 from their 20 overs.  Peverell in reply batted with determination to take the win against their counterparts. D.Goodey 15* top scored with L.Edmonds 13* also batting well to help Peverell to a finPlympton St Maurice look now on course to claim their first under 11 League title since 2003, after beating fellow title contenders Yelverton Hurricanes.  Plympton elected to bat first and got off to a good start with J.Smith scoring 13 not out.  The Hurricanes good bowling did bring them success with 3 wickets in 5 overs but a late on in the innings 14 not out by one of this season must consistent performers M.Borbon, helped move the Plympton tally onto a healthy 242 at the end of the innings. Yelverton's reply did not start well losing 2 quick wickets to the well disciplined Plympton bowlers.  M.Borbon 3 for 14 completed another top performance by the young promising Plympton player.  This performance proved to be the difference between the two teams as the Hurricanes finished their innings on 202, losing the game by 40 runs.

 

Plymstock got back to winning ways with a convincing win over Ivybridge Eagles.  The Eagles batted first and continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.  Plymstock bowler F.Cowen 2 for 7, N.Wills 3 for 15 and S.Hayes 4 for 13 were the pick of the bowlers as they helped reduce the Eagles to just 182 off their 20 overs. 

After the break F.Cowen opened the innings and batted well to reach 28 not out, and with Man of the Match S.Hayes completing a good performance by batting his way to a quick fire 27 not out.  Plymstock eventually finished their innings on 319 completing a comfortable 141 run victory.  Plympton St Mary was left still searching for their first win of the season, after losing to Cornwood Dels.St Mary's won the toss and asked Cornwood Dels to bat first.  After a good start to the innings by B.Griffith 10  N.Bell 11 not out and H.Fitzpatrick 13 not out, was then followed up by a clean hitting innings from J.Richardson who blasted his way to 25 not out.  Cornwood finished their innings on 323 with M.Crumley 2 for 31 being the pick of the Plympton bowlers. After the change over St Mary's J.Smith 13 not out helped push the score up towards the Dels final total, but final bowling figures of 2 for 11 by M.Hill and a good tight spell by N.Bell 1 for 9 of 3 overs pegged back the St Mary's batters. St Mary's went on to finish their innings on 256, losing the game by 67 runs.

This week saw two unbeaten teams go head to head.  Ivybridge Falcons played host to Plympton St Maurice on a fine May evening.   St Maurice batted first and began to dominate the Ivybridge bowlers.  Opener D.Hussey 21* got the innings off to a good start with M.Borbon 18* and K.Cooper 23* helping their team along the way to 325 at the end of the 20 overs.

Ivybridge Falcons in reply found it hard against a strong St Maurice bowling attack.  Man of the Match M.Borbon 2 for 21 and D.Hussey 3 for 21 were the pick of the St Maurice bowlers while Ivybridge batsman S.Williams 6* and M.Richards 8* batted competently under the accurate bowling attack.   Ivybridge closed their innings on 221 leaving Plympton to a 104 run win and their unbeaten start to the season intact.

Yelverton Hurricanes played their younger counterparts Yelverton Mosquitoes.  Mosquitoes won the toss and asked the Hurricanes to bat first.  W.Hadow 13*, H.Ridgers 13*, B.Grove 16* and top scorer H.Dunlop 32* helped push the Hurricanes final total onto 311. 

After the break the Mosquitoes batters M.Hayward 2* and P.Widdicombe 3 got their team innings off to a steady start, but good bowling from H.Ridgers 2 for 12 and H.Dunlop 2 for 0 saw the game slip away from Yelverton Mosquitoes, eventually finishing their innings on 170, handing an 141 run victory to The Hurricanes.

A close encounter saw the game between Plympton St Mary and Cornwood Oaks go down to the final ball of the game, with both teams able to take the victory.  St Mary batted first M.Philpott 5* and O.Gannon 7* were the St Mary leading batters in a final total of 208, while J.Goodliffe 3 for 11 N.White 2 for 14 and J.Smerdon 3 for 8 were the pick of the Oaks bowlers. 

After the change over N,White 14*opening the innings for Cornwood Oaks batted well to get his team off to a great start.  Wickets started to fall at regular interviews but  J.Goodliffe 12 at a crucial time saw the Oaks reach 211 off the last ball of the match to take the victory by only 3 runs.

In the final game of week 5.  Plymouth Peverell proved too strong for Plymstock with a 170 run victory.  Peverell batted first with D.Goodey 16*, L.Edmonds 17* and M.Bryant 31* top scoring in a final total of 316. 

In reply D.Goodey completed a great individual performance on the day with figures of 7 for 5.  S.Hayes 12* and F.Cowan 9* were the pick of the Plymstock batters in a final total of 146, seeing Plymouth Peverell win by 170 runs.

This week sees a break from league action with the 1st Round of the League Cup tournament.  Last years winner Cornwood Dels will be looking to retain the cup they won last year against league winners Whitchurch Wayfarers after a thrilling encounter.

Week 10  

Plympton St Maurice are heading into the last month of the season in pole position.  The current only unbeaten team in the league stand 3 points clear of Plymouth Peverell.  Both teams have all ready met each other this season back in early May, with Plympton St Maurice taking the spoils, this might yet prove to be the deciding factor in a close run contest between the two clubs. Plympton St Maurice moved onto 24 points for the season with a convincing 201 run win against Cornwood Oaks.  D.Hussey 35 not out, J.Bailey 21 not out and the impressive M.Borbon 30 not out all contributed to a final total of 335 for Plympton with the Cornwood bowlers unable to stop the flow of runs during their 20 overs in the field. D.Hussey then completed his Man of the Match performance with figures of 4 for 9 as the Cornwood Oaks batsmen struggled against a excellent bowling attack.  J.Goodliffe 15 did show some resistance in his innings but C.Webber 4 for 12 and L.Richardson 2 for 10 put the game well out of Cornwood Oaks reach.

 

Plymouth Peverell moved with in 3 points of their title rivals thanks to a walk over against Whitchurch Wayfarers who were unable to raise a team. Yelverton Hurricanes got back to winning ways after losing their last two outings, with a timely victory over an improving Plymouth Mount Wise team.  In a well contested game Yelverton batted first and had B.Grove 21 not out to thank for boosting the final Yelverton total of 236 towards the end of the innings. Plymouth Mount Wise started their innings slowly and soon found themselves falling behind the total set by Yelverton.  M.Walter 2 for 12 then produced a good spell of bowling which helped his team reduce the Mount Wise final total to 209 and an 27 run victory for Yelverton Hurricanes who move onto 18 points for the season.

 

Plymstock got the better of a final over win against Tavistock.  Plymstock batted first and despite good innings by J.Dyer 14 not out and A.Obrian 13 not out Plymstock finished the innings on a modest 225.  Tavistock bowlers B.Milligan and G.Cotterell both completed good spells finishing with 2 for 16 apiece.An innings of 10 not out by opener C.Poyntz set Tavistock on their way towards the Plymstock final total but Plymstock J.Dyer 2 for 7 kept the pressure on the Tavistock batsman.  The game went into its last over with both teams nervously looking for the victory.  In the end the Plymstock managed to keep their nerve in the field and took the victory with Tavistock finishing 2 runs behind on 223.Yelverton Mosquitoes could not build on their first league win of the season last week after succumbing to defeat at the hands of Cornwood Dels.  

Yelverton put Cornwood into bat first.  B.Griffiths 20 not out got Cornwood  Dels innings off to a good start  but J.Degg 2 for 28 helped put some pressure on the Cornwood batsmen.  The final 5 overs of the Dels innings saw a good partnership between M.Petherbridge 20 not out and J.Richardson 15  who pushed their teams final score onto 285.The Yelverton innings could not of started worse with 9 wickets falling in the first 10 overs.  M.Hill 2 for 24, N.Bell 2 for 23 and M.Petherbridge 2 for 7 were the pick of the Cornwood bowlers.  Yelverton never managed to recover from this good spell of bowling and continued to lose wickets for the rest of the innings finishing on a total of 168, 117 runs behind their opponents  .
