U11 Cup 2009 Round 1 The Under 11 teams took a break from league action last week to start this seasons League Cup knock-Out competition. In the 1st round Cup holders Cornwood Dels were knocked out of the competition at the first hurdle by early season League pace setters Plympton St Maurice. St Maurice batted first and soon made the Dels bowlers work hard to contain the St Maurice innings. A good opening partnership by D.Hussey 19 and M.Borbon 27 not out saw the St Maurice score move quickly on. K.Cooper 28 not out and C.Webber 26 not out helped St Maurice finish their innings on 139 for 4. M.Petherbridge was the pick of the Dels bowlers with 2 for 13. After the break a quick fire 39 not out by B.Griffiths and 13 by M.Petherbridge put the game in the balance. A good spell of bowling by J.Smith 2 for 3 and D.Hussey 2 for 5 proved the difference between the teams come the end with Cornwood Dels finishing the game on 87 for 7, leaving them 52 runs behind the St Maurice total. Last years Runners Up Whitchurch Wayfarers booked themselves into the 2nd round after a convincing 88 run victory over Yelverton Mosquitoes. Whitchurch racked up a big total of 145 for 2 with W.Bennett 28 not out and W.Partington 26 not out leading the way. In reply the Mosquitoes found it hard to get the ball away. J.Halloran 10 not out and M.Haward 12 managed to put up some resistance towards the end of the Mosquitoes innings but the result was never in doubt as Whitchurch booked a home tie in the next round. Plymstock played host to Cornwood Oaks at Dean Cross. Plymstock batted first and soon found themselves in trouble after J.Goodliffe 3 for 13 took early wickets to put Plymstock on the back foot . Opener F.Cowen 26 not out and middle order batsmen B.Russell 25 not out and S.Hayes 28 not out helped get their team innings back on track eventually finishing on 124 for 7. Cornwood Oaks started their innings steadily with J.Goodliffe 22 putting in a good display, but the 124 scored by Plymstock was always going to be a target too high to chase down for an young Oaks team. Oaks eventually finished on 56 for 3 handing a a 68 run victory and a 2nd round place to Plymstock. The first round draw saw Plymouth Peverell paired up to play against club rivals Plymstock Mount Wise. Mount Wise batted first but tight bowling from D.Goodey 2 for 6, H.Wilson 2 for 7 L.Edmonds 2 for 1 and R.Callicott 2 for 9 helped to reduce the Mount Wise innings to 78 for 8 at the conclusion of the 20 overs. Plymouth Peverell did not find chasing down the small total a mean feat and lost early wickets to J.Haggenburt 2 for 11. A good innings by Peverell opening batsman D.Goodey 25 not out helped steady the batsman's nerves and with 4 overs to spare Plymouth Peverell booked an away fixture to Ivybridge Eagles who were handed a bye into 2nd round. One 2nd round game was completed after both Tavistock and Yelverton Hurricanes were handed byes into the 2nd round of the tournament. Yelverton Hurricanes easily booked their place into the Semi Final stage of the competition with a 10 wicket victory that saw Tavistock only reach 25 all out. A quick fire 18 not by Yelverton R.Lopes soon finished a one sided affair leaving Yelverton to play the winners of the 2nd round game between Whitchurch Wayfarers and Ivybridge Falcons in the Semi Final. 2nd Round Fixtures In full Ivybridge Eagles v Plymouth Peverell Plympton St Maurice v Plymstock Whitchurch Wayfarers v Ivybridge Falcons
