Under 11 Round Up

Cornwood had mixed fortunes this week with a convincing win over Whitchurch in the League whilst slipping to a 32 run defeat in the Cup against Plymouth. E Staddon was in fine form scoring 25 and 27 no and also picking up three wickets in the Whitchurch game. Ryan Rickard also made an unbeaten 25 in the Cup match. Ellery Jones played a captain's knock to ease Plymouth into the next round. Plympton opened their League account with a win over Yelverton, youngster Callum Watkins picking up 3-7 and Guy Webber 3-6. Plymstock and PCSMW enjoyed a thrilling game at Dean Cross with Plymstock getting home with 3 balls to spare. Asked to bat first Plymstock kept things very tight as they restricted the PCSMW openers to just 9 runs from the first five overs. The loss of the first wicket brought skipper A Carr (17 no) to the crease who promptly upped the scoring rate but a fine spell of bowling from D Taylor (5-14) removed the middle order and she was unable to get enough of the strike to add the few more runs that would have been required. Without their strike bowler, Osama Alam, PCSMW put in a stirring effort to restrict the home side in their pursuit of victory. The turning point of the game came with the arrival of A Stevenson (25 no). At 44-2 from 14 overs the game was in the balance but he was joined by S Farmer (16 no) and together they added 24 from the next three overs to guide the home side to within victory. To their credit the visitors fought to the end with Plymstock just getting home. A thrilling cup tie played between two very evenly matched sides.
