The Bob Bridges Under 13 & 15 Cup Competition

Rules 2009

1.      Entrance to the Bob Bridges Youth Competition will be via the four regional leagues in Devon, at each age group, (Under 13 and Under 15). The two teams nominated by each area will be entered for the Competition.

2.      Each region should nominate its representatives by the 3rd August.

3.      Progression to the finals will be via a knockout competition. (See below)

4.      The format of the knockout stage is given below. Matches will start at 2.00 p.m. with tea between innings.

5.      Sides drawn at home will host the match, the Devon Cricket Board paying £50.00 to the home side only, towards the cost of hosting, preparation and teas. The Home Side shall be entirely responsible for arrangement of the fixture and contact with the Organiser. Two dates must be offered to the opposing team. Failure to agree a date will result in a date being specified by the Organiser.

6.      Each Club will provide their own Umpire. If the club wishes to provide a neutral Umpire from the DCUS they do so at their own expense

7.      The finals will be played on Monday 31st August at Exmouth C.C. The Under 13s starting at 10 a.m. and the Under 15s at 2.30 p.m.

+       At the semi-final stage each side to provide their own ball. The Devon Cricket Board will provide two new balls per match at the final.

9.      Wide Ball Law 25 – Judging a Wide. Umpires are instructed to apply a very strict and consistent interpretation in regard to this Law. As a guide, if it passes either side of the wicket sufficiently wide to make it virtually impossible for the striker to play a ‘normal cricket stroke’ both from where he is standing at the crease and from where he should normally be standing at the crease, the Umpire should call and signal ‘Wide’.

10.    In a full match, the side scoring the highest number of runs will be the winner.  In the event of a tie, the side losing the least wickets will be awarded the game.  If these are equal the game will be awarded to the side with the fastest scoring rate, if still equal, then to the side with the highest number of sixes and finally the highest number of boundary fours.

11.    In the event of bad weather affecting the result of a match:-

         a)    Where a match is rained off after the team batting first has completed its innings, the team batting second shall have its total revised as follows:

One over shall be deducted for every 3 minutes of playing time lost and the target total shall be calculated by multiplying the remaining available overs by the run rate of the side batting first.

    b) Where no play is possible on the backup date, a simple bowl out will take place, having regard to the safety of the players concerned. Each player shall bowl at the stumps. The winning team will be that which makes the greater number of hits.  Where, in the Umpires’ view, conditions are too dangerous for any of the above, the result of the match shall be decided by the toss of a coin.

12.    The winning side is responsible for sending the results, to the Organiser, to be received within 24 hours of the fixture.

13.    A player may represent a club in the competition if they are Under 13 or Under 15 years on the 1st September prior to the season of the Competition.  All players must be bona fide junior members of the club they represent and may play for only one club in the competition in any one season.  A player must be registered with the regional league in which they participate.  A player who plays for more than one Devon league club MUST NOMINATE prior to the commencement of the season (1st May) to the competition organiser which club they will represent.  Failure to comply with this rule will result in that player being ineligible to subsequently compete and disqualification for the club concerned should the player take part in the competition.

14.    All matches to be played in the SPIRIT OF THE GAME, all current ECB rules and regulations are to be followed at all times, with ECB guidelines to Disciplinary procedures adhered to.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT MANAGERS HAVE A DUTY OF CARE WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO SAFETY & LIGHT.  THE WEARING OF HELMETS SHOULD BE ENFORCED AT ALL TIMES.

UMPIRES ARE TO BE INSTRUCTED TO STRICTLY ENFORCE LAW 42.6. (THE BOWLING OF SHORT PITCHED BALLS AND FAST HIGH FULL PITCHES).

Palladium League Entry

The sides in the first two positions in the Under 13 and Under 15 league table at midnight on 2nd August shall represent the League in this competition. If this produces more than two sides from each League, then the League representative from sides with the same number of points will be determined as follows:

11.1   By the results of the league match (es) played between the sides concerned that season.

11.2   If this does not resolve the situation, then the representative will be the side taking most wickets up to 2nd August.

11.3   If this does not resolve the situation, then the representative will be the side losing least wickets up to 2nd August.
