North v East at
Hatherleigh Sunday 8th May
|
East
Devon started their season with a game against North Devon at
Hatherleigh. Captain Joe Webb lost the toss and the North took the
best option of putting the East in to bat.
|
The
East started badly with Andy Buzza out LBW for nought and James
Parkin (14) caught off a short pitch delivery from Branton Palin
from an attempted hook that took a top edge and went straight into
the gloves of keeper Tom Forrester. The East batsmen went to the
crease for short stays and Robert Fishleigh took the crucial wickets
of Simon Ashplant (16), Joe Webb (10) and Robbie Debenham (10)
before Elliot Acton arrived. He was supported by Ben Morgan (16) to
help the East to a total of 134 in 36.4 overs, eventually being
bowled for 33 by North captain Gareth Tidball. |
Opening
bowlers Elliot Acton and Scott Boardman started well. Tom Forrester
and Dan Pickard departed quickly. But Tidball and eventually Jay
Wittram dug in and took the North well ahead of the run rate until
Tidball went LBW for 39 in the seventeenth over. Wittram then took
the North to within sight of victory when he was caught off Ollie
Pyne by Ben Morgan for 29 with the score on 127. Pyne then took the
last two wickets with the North just two runs short. |
