West v South at
Plymouth College Sunday May 8th
|
An exceedingingly
long-winded game, with each side taking 3 ¼ hours to bowl their
overs. South put West into bat on a soft pitch. Fletcher and Burke
batted sensibly before Burke was run out when the score was 92.
Hefford and Nash gave Fletcher support but apart from a late flurry
by Webber, West were unable to achieve better than 220-9. Orchard
took 3 wickets late on but no other bowler stood out. |
South made a slow start
with West picking up wickets via the fast bowling of Burke. Lack of
accurate bowling support and a very determined and fine partnership
between Whittle and Halse saw South creep ever closer to their
target. Despite the loss of some late wickets, Whittle saw
South through to a well deserved victory with 224-6. Whitlle top
scored with 97, Halse a good 56. |
