Under 11 Inter District - Sunday 30th April 2006
North v West
The North won the toss and elected to field on a green track. The home sides opening attack of Heard and Poppenham bowled an excellent opening spell of tight bowling leaving the West at 5-2. A mature innings from B.Stein rescued the situation moving the total on to 48. A drinks break brought a chance in approach as quick runs were now the priority but with the change in tempo came a fall of two quick wickets. Under 10 O.Sale (38) then batted beautifully with good support from the remaining batsmen to enable the West post a respectable 157 in the cold damp conditions. The best of the home side bowlers were Heard 3-31 and Cherrington 2-9.
Mailing and Sale opened the bowling and provided the second outstanding opening spell of the day bowling rapidly and accurately conceding no wides. North lost three wickets in reaching 29 when the openers were removed from the attack. The North's May (14) batted well before being trapped leg before by Newton. With the visitors Stephens struggling with his run up it was left to Couzens and Cave to keep up the pressure and they both took two wickets. The West were experiencing difficulty in finishing off the resilient home side but finally in the thirty-eighth over the leg spin of Couzins finally defeated Renyolds (11) who had batted superbly nearly taking his side to a draw.
