The 2006 Season

Exeter v Whimple (continued)  A brief cameo from Merrick Steward ended as he sliced Rahman to Holmes at point, becoming the third Exeter batsman to perish on 12.  With six overs of their chase remaining, the hosts needed 42 runs to win as Gill joined opener Matt Miller in the middle, the two batsmen beginning their stand mixing singles with a pair of crisply struck fours from Gill and keeping the asking rate at seven per over. Then Miller, who had barely scored at one per over so far, suddenly exploded. Chris Bardot disappeared for 14 in an over – boundaries through cover, mid wicket and mid on – and the equation had taken on a completely different complexion.  Another two boundaries followed off Dan Chamberlain, and Exeter needed four from two overs to seal their progression. Miller guided Rahman between point and gully for two, and then a wide sealed the home side’s progression to the first round proper, where they will travel to Tiverton Heathcoat. Miller (28*) and Gill (19*) shared the man-of-the-match award. Hatherleigh defeated Barnstaple and Pilton by 17 runs after scoring 78 with Collier retiring on 31 and extras contributing to Hatherleigh's 78. Popham took 3-9 and Fewings 3-16. In reply extras top scored with 22 and Brierley and Britten reached double figures. It was a toss of a coin to decide if Ivybridge or Plymouth C.S were to proceed to the next round and tails won it for Plymouth C.S. Who beat the poor late May weather in getting their game in against Brixham. Brixham batted first and lost their first three wickets for 6 runs but a partnership of 42 between Eaves who retired on 31 and Dallow 10. Mallar was 13 not out at the end with extras contributing 25 to the home sides final total of 87.  Plymouth also statred badly with four down for 15 but Allam tried to turn the game but his 21 was not enough even with the 30 extras Plymouth CS fell 23 runs short with Clarke taking 3-17 and Fahey 3-3. Craig Eaves runs and a wicket won him the home sides man of the match and Amar Carr's keeping won her the nomination. Barton batted first in their derby with Paignton and scored 43 with extras playing a vital part in scoring over half the runs - 27.  The visitors were bowled out in 16 overs with Gordon Watton taking 2-11. It took Paignton just 9 overs to score the runs with Richard Ashworth top scoring with 24, Dale Adderley took 2-12 and Tom Drake 2-23.
