Week 6 in the Palladium League saw Plymstock extend their lead at the top of the table with a victory over Plymouth’s U10 team.  Plymstock batted first and scored 260 thanks to a unbeaten innings of 24 by J.Summer and a 31 by M.Blackmore.  L.Edmonds kept Plymouth in the game with figures of 4 overs 2 maidens 3 runs 4 wickets.Plymouth U10 in reply managed 226 with N.Fennel scoring 10 not out being the main batter in their innings.  D.Mulberry 4 overs 1 maiden 13 runs 3 wickets and S.Stocker 3 overs 0 maidens 19 runs 2 wickets bowled well giving Plymstock a 34 run victory margin.

Plymstock win by 34 Runs

Plymouth Civil Service and Yelverton both found themselves only playing their second game of the season due to the bad weather at the start of the season.  Plymouth Civil batted first and made slowly made their way to 223 thanks mainly to 34 extras bowled by the Yelverton bowlers and 12 not out by M.Borbon.  D.Ackford 4 overs 0 maidens 7 runs 2 wickets, D.Dawes 4 overs 0 maidens 14 runs 2 wickets and J.Dovie 2 overs 0 maidens 11 runs 2 wickets lead the bowling for Yelverton Yelverton batted second and struggled against Plymouth Civil tight bowling only D.Ackford managed to make double figures with 13.  M.Borbon helped seal a victory for Plymouth Civil Service by 7 runs with figures of 4 overs 1 maiden 9 runs 2 wickets.

Whitchurch carried on their un-beaten start to the season with a 18 run victory over Plymouth’s U11 team.  PlymouthIn reply Whitchurch concluded a 30 run win with B.Barriball hitting his way to a un-beaten 29.  Whitchurch did have nerves moments on their way with W.Caulfield-Roberts bowling 4 overs 0 maidens 20 3 wickets and C.Carnise 4 overs 1 maiden 17 runs wickets for 3. batted first a posted a score of 212 with promising Whitchurch U9 player C.Barriball Bowling 4 overs 1 maiden 13 runs 2 wickets and L.Cummings bowling figures of 4 overs 2 maidens 9 runs 3 wickets.

Whitchurch win by 18 Runs

In the final league game Cornwood Oaks put pressure on the leading pack with a well earned 59 run victory over Ivybridge.  Ivybridge just managed to break the 200 mark and finished off on 207 with 32 extras being bowled by Cornwood Oaks the major factor in the innings.  W.Lugger was the only batter improving Ivybridge’s total with 12 not out.  J.Reid 4 overss 2 maidens 6 runs 2 wickets and B.Elliott 3 overs 0 maidens 9 runs 2 wickets were the pick of the bowlers. P.Williams of Ivybridge bowled well in his spell taking 2 wickets for 14 runs off his 4 overs, but the result was never in doubt and thanks to a 27 by B.Nicholls Cornwood Oaks won by a 59 run margin.

1st Round Cup

Defending champions Whitchurch Wayfarers booked their place into the Semi-Final of the tournament and a step closer to retaining the U11 cup.  Plympton batted first and after 20 overs finished with a final total of 77.  J.Mullin 16, T.Rossowill 14 and  A.Wass 11 made steady runs for Plympton but tight bowling from Whitchurch restricted the runs needed per over to less than 4.

Whitchurch had mainly B.Barriball to thank scoring 25 before retiring. S.Ratcliff also scored 14 before being neatly caught and bowled by C.Watkins who went on to take figures of 4 overs 0 maidens 15 runs 2 wickets.  Whitchurch Wayfarers win by 6 wickets now means they will play Plymouth U11 in the next round of the cup.

At the half way stage of the season 5 teams look set to take the league title to the wire. Plymstock currently lead the league table with 10 points but have played more games to date then their close rivals.

 

Plymouth Civil Services captured their second win of the season thanks mainly to 55 extras bowled by Ford Park Girls and a unbeaten 15 from E Thomas. In reply to Plymouth Civil Services 299 final total, Ford Park Girls made a creditable final total of 240.  K.Greenwood continued her good form to the season and scored 29 not out.  Pick of the Plymouth Civil bowlers were N.Smale 3 for 25 and J.Wardle 2 for 11.

Plympton lost their first game of the season against top of the league Plymstock.  Plympton batted first and found it hard to get the ball away against a strong Plymstock bowling attack.  J.Mullin was the backbone of the Plympton innings with 17 not out but wickets fell steadily and Plympton reached a modest 224 come the end of their innings. Plymstock in return found the going a bit easier than their counterparts and only lost 4 wickets on their way to a final total of 265 and a win by 41 runs. M.Blackmore top scored with 19 not out while J.Warth was the pick of the Plympton bowlers 1 for 12.

Whitchurch Wayfarers travelled to their local moorland rivals and batted first. Devon U10 player C.Barriball top scored with 14 while older brother B.Barriball scored a unbeaten 13 to help Whitchurch Wayfarers to a final total of 269.  The top bowler for Yelverton was D.Cooper 2 for 19.

Yelverton never got to grips with some tight bowling by the Whitchurch Wayfarers players.  L.Cummings was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 1 for 5 and R.Alford also bowled well with figures of 1 for 2.  The tight bowling reduced Yelverton to 214 leaving Whitchurch Wayfarers with a 45 run win to leave them 2nd in the table.

Plympton got back to winning ways with a victory against Plymouth Civil Service.  Plympton batted first and blasted their way to a huge total of 315.  61 extras was the top score of the innings being bowled by the Civil bowlers and clean hitting by C.Watkins with a 30 not out help push the score over the 300 mark. Plymouth Civil Service made a good effort with the bat but the Plympton total was always going to be a to big total for the young civil team to get.  Both E.Thomas and M.Rizvi scored 14 and got the Civil total to 239.  D.Hussey finished with figures of 2 for 6. Plympton won by 81 runs.

Cornwood Oaks continued their interest at the top of the league with a 35 run victory over Plymouth U10.  Cornwood Oaks scored 252 batting first with B.Nicholls scoring 22 not out leading the Cornwood innings.  M.Bryant took away figures of 1 for 3 and was the leading bowler for Plymouth.  Plymouth in return found scoring runs hard and struggled to 217.  N.Fennell batted steadily to reach 10 not out.  Good bowling from J.Reid 2 for 8 and M.Waller 2 for 12 helped Cornwood Oaks to a comfortable win by 35 runs.

Plymstock took their good run of form into the Q/Finals of the cup tournament and book themselves into the Semi Finals thanks to a 25 run win over Cornwood Delamore.  Plymstock were asked to bat first and lost D.Mulberry early on for 3 but then T.Hunt 13 C.O’Higgins 12 and T.Elliot-Smith 25 not out helped Plymstock to reach 82 for 6, with M.Skinner taking 2 for 10 the pick of the Cornwood Delamore bowlers. Plymstock soon had Cornwood Delamore on the rails after the break with Cornwood losing their top 5 for only 20 runs.  J.Whitfield showed some resilience making 10 before being bowled by D.Mulberry.  Cornwood managed to survive their 20 overs in bat but could only reach 57 for 7, giving Plymstock a 25 run win. The semi finals fixtures are now complete.  Whitchurch Wayfarers will be at home to Plymouth U11 while Plymstock have a home tie to Yelverton.  Games to be played by 31/07/07.

Week 10

Yelverton were asked to bat first by Ivybridge and batted steady for the first 10 overs of the game picking up singles to keep the score ticking over.  Ivybridge managed to pull their self’s back into the game at the half way stage of the Yelverton innings taking 3 wickets,  but a un-beaten 20 by D.Actford saw Yelverton though to a useful total of 226, with Dawe of Ivybridge picking up bowling figures of 3 overs 1 maiden 4 runs 3 wickets.In reply to Yelverton total, Ivybridge managed to defend their wickets well and apart from a late come back from Yelverton in the final 5 overs which saw them take 3 of Ivybridge wickets, Ivybridge managed to hold on for a 8 run victory.

Whitchurch Wayfarers came though a difficult fixture against Plympton with 36 run victory.  Plympton were reduced to 215 after good bowling from C.Barriabll taking 2 wickets for 3 runs.  34 extras bowled by Whitchurch helped add to the Plympton final total.Whitchurch Wayfarers were put under pressure from the start of their innings  losing 3 wickets in their first 5 overs but L.Northmore continued his good form with 18 not out and thanks to 48 extras Whitchurch Wayfarers finished off at 250 and retain their un-beaten run to 5 games.Whitchurch Wayfarers take over the top spot in the league from Plymstock with 11 points and 4 games left to play.  Plymstock our 2nd 1 point behind the new leaders with also 4 games left to play.

Week 11

 Plymstock won their 6th game of the season against a fast improving Yelverton team who didn’t let the new leaders have it all their own way.  Plymstock batted first but lost 4 wickets in their first 5 overs putting the city team with work to do with 15 overs to go.  T. Elliott-Smith steadied the ship with 13 Not Out, but good bowling by D.Axford and C.Dawe both taking 2 for 16 of 4 overs helped reduce Plymstock to 218 off their 20 overs.Yelverton started well but a middle order collapse and good bowling by C. O’Higgins 3 for 5 brought Plymstock back into the game.  The loss of wickets in the middle was to much for the last two Yelverton batsman to make up for.  Yelverton finished on 198, 20 runs short of the Plymstock total.

Plymouth U10 recorded their 2nd victory of the season against Ivybridge. In a low scoring game Ivybridge batted first and scored 196 with B.Couldwell 3 for 7 the pick of the bowlers.  Plymouth U10 innings was steady through out with opener J.Brazier making 14 Not Out the back bone of the Plymouth innings.  Plymouth finished on 238 leaving them to take the 2 points by a 42 run margin.

Ivybridge succumbed to their second loss in a week this time losing to Plymouth Civil Service by 35 runs.  Ivybridge batted first and made 243 at the end of their innings with Plymouth Civil Service only managing to take 2 wickets against them.  J.Wardle set Plymouth Civil Service off to a great start making a un-beaten 27 after 5 overs.  M.Rizvi 13 W.Sargent 16 and M.Borbon 13 also batted well to take their team total up to 278 at the end of their innings, in a well thought victory.

Yelverton produced their best game of the season so far with a 115 run win over Cornwood Delamore.  M.Adams 15, D.Dawe 20, and 29 extras bowled by the Cornwood bowlers helped the Yelverton score up to 295 after 20 overs.  Cornwood Delamore found the going hard and the 295 set by Yelverton to much of  ask.  D.Ackford 3 for 7 D.Cooper 3 for 9 and C.Dawe 2 for 6 kept keeping the Cornwood innings in check.  Cornwood finished on 180, leaving Yelverton to pick up their second win of the season.

To of the youngest teams in the league went head to head at Oak park.  Cornwood Delamore batted first and thanks to M.Skeemer 22 Not Out reached 240 of their 20 overs.In reply The young Plymouth team struggled against tight bowling from the Cornwood players and could only make 218 runs,  22 runs short of the 240 total set for them.

Plymouth kept up their hopes on catching up the league leaders with a victory over 3rd place Cornwood Oaks by 14 runs.  Cornwood Oaks batted first making 238 with M.Waller 15 Not Out the leading Cornwood Oaks batsman.  S.Colmer ended up the leading Plymouth bowler with figures of 3 for 19. Cornwood Oaks found it hard to get the Plymouth’s batsmen out and apart from a small wobble in the middle of their innings were Plymouth lost 5 wickets, Plymouth were always in control of the game and finished off with 252 and 2 points to their league tally keeping up their hopes of catching the top teams in the league.

The under 11 league title looks like it will go down to the wire.  Both Plymstock and Whitchurch Wayfarers can win the league but Plymstock loss to Whitchurch Wayfarers at the start of the season could yet prove to be the difference between the two teams at the end of the season.  Week 12 saw  Plymstock manage to beat 3rd place Cornwood Oaks while Whitchurch Wayfarers continued  the pressure at the top of the table with a victory at Ivybridge.

 

Cornwood Delamore batted first but good bowling by C.Comaris 3 for 21, G.Rhead 2 for 8 and S.Colmer 2 for 19 restricted Cornwood Delamore’s innings to end on 216 with only M.Skeemer 9 not out scoring well. In reply Plymouth never looked in trouble against the Cornwood bowlers.  C.Connaris blasted his way to an excellent innings of 26 to help his side win by 35 runs.

Yelverton and Plympton took part in one of the closest games this season.  Yelverton batted first and thanks to good batting by C.Dawe 13 and D.Ackford 11 Yelverton finished on 237 after their 20 overs.  Good bowling by Plympton C.Watkins was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 9. Plympton found the Yelverton bowlers on top form but C.Watkins finished off his Man of the Match performance with an un-beaten 19 and helped his team to finish off with a final total of 241 giving Plympton a narrow victory by 4 runs.  M.Adams was the pick of the Yelverton bowlers with 3 for 11

N.Fennell helped Plymouth U10 to a 9 run win Over Plymouth Civil Service.  Fennell stared with the bat for Plymouth with 12 not out while helping his team reach a modest 199 after their 20 overs had been completed. Plymouth Civil Service had no answer in reply to the tight bowling of L.Edmonds for Plymouth finishing with figures of 3 for 9.  M.Risly 14 was the only batter in Civil innings to put pressure on the bowlers but couldn’t stop Plymouth winning the game by 9 runs and taking the 2 points for the victory.

Top of the league Whitchurch traveled to Ivybridge and fielded first.  L.Northmore 2 for 6 and C.Barriball 2 for 4 could had Ivybridge in trouble, and when L.Cummings took 3 for 3 Ivybridge could only manage to score a low score of 167. Ivybridge started off well taking 2 wickets in the first 5 overs but a un-beaten 14 from L.Northmore 14 and  a 15 Not Out by B.Barriaball helped carry Whitchurch onto a score of 268 and a 101 victory win.

Plymstock kept their league season alive with a win against third placed Cornwood Oaks.  Cornwood batted first and against accurate bowling had to settle for a final score of 207 at the end of their innings. Plymstock in reply batted maturely keeping their wickets in-tact and despite good bowling by Cornwood’s B.Nicholls 2 for 3 Plymstock strolled to a 40 run victory without to many scares along the way.

 Plymstock finished their season on a high with a victories over Plymouth U11 and  Plymouth Civil Service leaving them on a final tally of 18 points out of a possible total of 20.  Whitchurch Wayfarers are now left with  two games to play and are currently 3 points behind Plymstock, following their convincing win over Plymouth U10.  Whitchurch Wayfarers play Cornwood Oaks away on Wednesday while they finish their league season at home against Plymouth Civil Service on Friday. 

 
In a must win game for both teams Plymstock strolled to victory by a 68 run margin.  Plymouth batted first but struggled against a tight line and length bowling attack.  Plymouth finished their innings on a modest 222. Plymstock free hitting batters soon started building a steady innings and wickets for Plymouth were hard to come by.  Good innings by J.Sumner 18 and T.Hunt 11 helped Plymstock on to a final of 290, leaving Plymouth U11 needing other results to go their way for them to have a chance at winning the league

Plymstock batted first in their final game of the season and scored freely with J.Summer the leading bat with a undefeated 20.  Civil bowlers only managed to take two of the Plymstock wickets and at the break faced chasing down a big total of 285 to win set by Plymstock. Wickets fell regularly for Civil in replay and the bowling of S.Stocker 2 for 3 who was the pick of the Plymstock bowlers proved to good for the Civil batmen leaving Plymstock to round off a great season for them with a 55 run win

PLYMOUTH CIVIL SERVICE v      PLYMSTOCK

Whitchurch Wayfarers managed to over come the first of 3 hard fixtures this week with a 52 run victory over Plymouth U10.  R.Walters was the pick of the Whitchurch bowlers with figures of 3 for 10, which help reduce Plymouth U10 to 185 off their 20 overs. In reply Whitchurch managed to bat maturally and only lost 3 wickets on their way to a final total of 237 with B.Barriable the leading bat with 14 Not Out. In other results Cornwood Dells beat local rivals Ivybridge by a 12 runs in  a close run match.  Plymouth Civil Service pulled off a shock result to beat Plymouth U11 ending their hope of catching the top two teams.
