The Under 13 Palladium 2007 League Season | Second Half of 2007 Season |
11/06/07 Plympton 143-2 (M.Outtram 67*, S. Howourth 28, J. Triscott1-16)Plymouth U12s 62 all out (H. Price 20, L. Garforth 2-20, L. Gunn-Colling 2-9) Plympton beat Plymouth U12s by 81 runs |
A spirited effort by Plymouth who in their initial development season performed well. However, thanks to an excellent innings of 67 not out by Matt Outtram, well supported by Howourth (28), Plympton put on a formidable total of 143 for Plymouth to chase. With a well organised bowling & fielding attack Plympton ensured the home side failed to reach the total by a comfortable margin with Luke Gunn-Colling the pick of the bowlers (4-1-9-2). Outtram performed well behind the stumps with some sharp glove work including a stumping earning him as fielder of the match for Plympton while Lwis put in a chirpy performance behind the stumps earning him fielder of the match for Plymouth. Despite being outplayed by a stronger & well-organised opposition Plymouth should not feel despondant as their enthusiasm & effort will in time prevail. Well done to all who competed. |
11/06/07 Ivybridge 131-0 (J. Mailling 60*, H.Soloman 43*, D. Taylor 0-17) Plymstock Panthers 81all out (M. Thomas 20, A. Huxtable 3-8, N. Lancaster 2-5) Ivybridge beat Plymstock Panthers by 50 runs |
The Panthers put Ivybridge into bat. Despite some tight early bowling and excellent fielding from the Plymstock team the Ivy openers Soloman (43 not out) and Mailling (60 not out) gradually increased the run rate throughout the innings to finish on 131 for no wicket from the 20 overs. Some early accurate bowling from Lancaster (4-1-5-2) and Bennett (4-1-11-0) meant Plymstock were always behind the required run rate. Thomas with a brisk 20 tried to get the scoreboard moving but once removed by Oldfield (4-0-17-2) the rate exceeded 9 per over. Huxtable (2-0-8-3) also finished the match with a direct throw to run out the last Plymstock man, leaving Ivybridge winners by 50 runs. |
11/06/07 Cornwood Oaks 172-4 (A. Beaumont 83*, R. Rickard 26, L. Richardson 2-24) Cornwood Dels 159-6 (E. Staddon 58, G. DeMendonca 11, R. Rickard 1-25, L. Anning 1-18) Cornwood Oaks beat Cornwood Dels by 13 runs |
The Oaks won the toss and batted first in this battle of Cornwood. Alex Beaumont and Pete Archer opened, with Alex once again making a superb 83 not out. The pick of the bowlers for the Dells was Luke Richardson with 2 for 24 from 3 overs. Elliot Staddon played a determined innings of 58 and kept the score moving steadily toward the target, ably supported by Luke Richardson (10) and George De Mendonca (11). However, some wayward bowling allowed the Dells to get far too close for comfort to what should have been an ample total. 57 extras were bowled by the Oaks, helping the Dells to a score of 159 for 6 wickets after their 20 overs. Rickard, Lauren Anning, Kelly and Alex & Bill Beaumont took the wickets. The Oaks were victorious, but the Dells never gave up and both sides played some good cricket on a pleasant summer night watched by a good crowd. |

Plymouth’s opening bowlers of Barnes (4-1-9-2) and Couldwell (3-0-3-0) put in good performances but Stein (4-0-17-5) was the pick of the Plymouth team. The Plymouth batting reply reached the total needed with over 7 overs to spare, Attis (22) top scoring supported by Jones (12 not out) with Widnell (2-0-10-2) the pick of the Civil bowlers. |
12/06/07 Tideford 105 –6 (B. Osbourne 33, R. Morris 1-10, S. Farmer 1-11, A Stevenson 1-5) Plymstock Sabres 110-5 (R. Coltham 59*, S. Farmer 21, B. Kitt-Osborne 2-13) Plymstock Sabres beat Tideford by 5 wkts |

A good opening spell from Osborne (4-1-13-2) made inroads into the Plymstock batting until Sam Farmer (21) joined Rory Coltham, who was in outstanding form. Eleven fours in his score took his individual total to 59 not out which saw the home side victors in a very tight game with only 4 balls to spare. |
15/06/07 Whitchurch 106-4 (K. Alford 22, C. Swash, 22, J. Stephens 2-21) Tavistock 105-7 (R. Davies 43, M. White 22, A. Northmore 3-8, H. Kisby 1-7) Whitchurch beat Tavistock by 1 run |

Jamie Stephens (4-0-21-2) and Tom Grennan-Cruise (2-0-3-1) were the only successful Tavistock bowlers. Whitchurch finished on 106 for 4 in their 20 overs. The Tavistock reply began with Rhys Davies (43) punishing any loose bowling and Jonty Newton (12) pushing the singles sensibly to rotate the strike. When Alford (4-0-30-1) bowled Daviesthe game turned Whitchurch’s way. Matt White (22) kept Tavistock in the hunt but accurate bowling from Henry Kirby (4-1-7-1) and Aaron Northmore (4-0-8-3) in the final few overs saw Tavistock fall just 1 run short; Whitchurch’s more accurate bowling proving the decisive factor. |
Quarter Finals22/06/07 Tavistock 128-4 (D. Scaglioni 42, W. Steed 38, H. Kirby 1-14, W. Hall 1-28) Whitchurch 78-6 (T. Cummings 30, C. Swash 14, J. Stephens 3-9) Tavistock beat Whitchurch by50 runs |

Swash was out to a stunning catch by Steed off Will Smith and Billy Boulton was then caught by Rob Grove off the bowling of Jamie Duncan. The Whitchurch innings finished on 78 for 7 giving Tavistock a 50 run winning margin |

Despite the previous day’s heavy rain & another heavy shower jusy before the start Ivybridge and Plymouth U13s managed to get some cricket in with a reduced 15 overs per side. The result was a game played in great spirit with Plymouth winning by 25 runs. Plymouth batted first and struggled to get the score moving in the first 6 overs with some tight bowling from Josh Mailling & Corky Bennett. Ben Stein (39 not out) began to accelerate the run rate with 40 runs coming from the last 5 overs, Plymouth finishing on 75 for 4. There was another interruption for rain but both sides were keen to finish the game. Ivybridge could never get up to the required run-rate losing wickets steadily and closed on 50 for 7. The Plymouth bowlers all bowled a very tight & economical line. Star of the evening was Jordan Hancock (3-0-6-3) including a hat-trick for which he received a very soggy match ball for his winning spell. |

Cornwood Dels are still searching for their first victory of the season after this 7 wicket defeat by Yelverton. The Dels won the toss and opted to bat on a very damp and dark late June evening at Delamore Park. Del openers Elliott Staddon and Luke Richardson batted well on a difficult pitch, putting on 58 for the first wicket before D. Ackford bowled Staddon for 27. Richardson was joined by George DeMendonca who put on a further 50 runs before DeMendonca unselfishly ran himself out for excellent 32. Richardson carried his bat for a well-earned 39 as the Dels reached a very respectable 130-2 off their 20 overs. Ackford being the only wicket taker for the away side. The Dels must have thought they’d done the hard work but didn’t expect a quite remarkable innings from Yelverton opener T. Turner. In an innings that included 5 x 6’s and 12 x 4’s Turner didn’t give the Del bowlers any respect whatsoever and batted throughout the Yelverton innings to smash his way to 91 not out. No other Yelverton batsman reached double figures as Yelverton won the match by 7 wickets with some 4 overs remaining. Harry Cobbold managed very respectable figures of 4-0-21-1 with his ever-improving leg spin. |

Charles Attis remained unbeaten on 28 and Ben Stein unbeaten on 11. |

Plymouth Civil Service won the toss and invited plympton to bat on a wet pitch, the bounce was a little unpredictable but made for a very close, exciting & enjoyable match. Good bowling, fielding & some batting failures left Plympton at one stage 26 for 7. To the crowd this was game over for Plympton. However a late forceful & controlled batting spell by Lewis Garforth (22) without much support from other batsmen along with several extras brought the total to 64 runs (extras second highest score with 21), The better Civil bowling came from B. Waghorne (4-1-10-3), O. Alam (2.4-0-9-2) and J. Widnell (3-0-6-2). Civil’s reply didn’t get off to a much better start being 14 for 2 after 6 overs, the game being anything but a walkover. After 14 overs the score was 37 for 2 and the game was going one way. Plympton bowlers had other ideas. J. Howourth (4-2-13-1), L. Garforth (4-0-8-1) and J. Lloyd (4-1-9-1) really made the game safe for Plympton. But some very inept fielding by a few allowed Civil back into the game which ended in a tie. |

Tight bowling resulted in Carter trying to force the pace and after he had gone for 11 Jack Smith & Kitt-Osborne proceeded to add 66 for the fourth wicket. Kitt-Osborne’s innings of 67 included 8 fours and a six & was a model of concentration & front foot technique on a damp pitch. Smith batted well with his 21 not out. Northmore (4-0-14-1) and Cummings (3-1-11-1) were the pick of the Whitchurch bowlers. The Whitchurch reply was given strong foundation by Cummings (24) and Swash (30) and had a good chance of overhauling the Tideford total. Tight bowling by Tom Carter (3-1-6-1), Guy Webber (4-0-15-0) and Evan Hughes (3-0-10-0) restricted the batsmen & Ben Kitt-Osborne (3-0-5-3) weighed in to add to his batting performance. Tideford lasted out to win by 15 runs with the game played in an excellent spirit by both sets of players. |
11/07/07 Plymouth U13s 100 all out (B. Stein 43, C. Attis 26, R. Coltham 2-19, R. Morris 2-18) Plymstock Sabres 75-6 (H. Kerton 23, J. Hancock 1-7, H. Barnes 1-15) Plymouth U13s beat Plymstock Sabres by 25 runs |

Whitchurch returned to winning ways in fantastic style after losing to Tideford earlier in the week, with a 122 run win over local moorland rivals Yelverton. Yelverton travelled with only 9 men and put Whitchurch in to bat first. Whitchurch’s Tom Cummings took advantage of the missing fielders and made his 50 after only 8 overs. At the other end Aaron Northmore also helped his team’s total with a solid 21 before being caught at mid wicket. Cummings went on to 92 needing 8 in the last over to make his first 100 for the club. Having taken 2 off the first ball he could only manage a single off the 2nd to take him off strike. With the third ball a quick single was called for by Cummings to get himself back on strike but the quick thinking Yelverton fielder was too quick and threw down the stumps leaving Tom Cummings run out 6 short of his 100. In reply Yelverton had no answer to the bowling off the Whitchurch bowlers and lost five of their 8 wickets available within the first 10 overs. It was left to Kieran Alford and Aaron Northmore to finish off the Yelverton lower order for 46 all out, leaving Whitchurch with a 122 run win. |

Credit should be given to the Plymouth batsmen for perservering. Plymstock Sabres made the trip to Cornwood and came away with a comprehensive 123 run victory. On winning the toss, the Sabres decided to bat and it was apparent from the very first ball that the spectators were going to be treated to a run fest. H. Kurtain (42) and A. Stevenson (71 not out) put on 88 for the first wicket before Kurtain was well caught by the Dels wicket keeper Dale Halford of the bowling of Ed Bussell. J. Batten then joined Stevenson and these pair put on a further 84 runs, the partnership ending when Batten was run out by a direct hit from 7 year old Matthew Petherbridge for 17. No further wickets fell and the Sabres finished on a very impressive 188 for 2. If Cornwood were going to stand any chance of a remarkable victory, they would have needed to get off to a flier. Unfortunately, after both openers were run out with the score on 8, it was apparent that this wasn’t going to happen. Only Sam Miller (10 not out) going in at Number 9 reached double figures against some accurate Sabres bowling. Cornwood’s innings finally closing on 64 – 9, giving the Sabres a 123 run victory. Ben Underwood (3-2-1-1), Rory Coltham (3-0-8-2) and Sam Farmer (3-1-1-1) were particularly impressive for the Sabres. |

Thanks also to 38 extras bowled by Cornwood Whitchurch finished their 20 overs on 109 for 9. In Reply Cornwood started off very well and looked on course for a well-deserved victory. After that Billy Beaumont soon followed and tight bowling by the Whitchurch managed to restrict Cornwood middle order to only 66 off their 20 overs, and a 43 run win for Whitchurch. |
