Whitchurch lost their first match of the season to a Plymouth 2 team full of 13 year old players. In contrast Whitchurch only fielded four 13 year olds, the rest being a year younger that proved to be a telling factor. Plymouth won the toss & put whitchurch into bat. Plymouth’s accurate bowling with Barnes (4-1-8-3), Hancock (4-1-7-2) and fine wicket keeping by Jones took its toll on the young Whitchurch side. At 28-4 off 10 overs things looked bad for Whitchurch but a 30 partnership between Swash & Hall helped push the 58 before the next wicket.Plymouth’s innings started well & never looked in danger of not making Whitchurch’s total. Plymouth passed the target with 7 overs left. Matthews (15), Jones (11) & Attis (14*) were the best batters for Plymouth with Twine the best bowler for Whitchurch (3.4-0-25-2). |

Cornwood won the toss and chose to bat. Alex Beaumont (74*) and Billy Beaumont then took advantage of wayward bowling and were able to add to a flood of extras to be well on top at the end of 6 overs. The other batsmen ably supported Alex, notably Lauren Anning being dropped 3 times in a highly entertaining mid-innings spell. Michael Johnson came in at No.7 and was a good foil to Alex and finished on 5 not out. Ackford (3-0-18-1) was the pick of the Yelverton bowlers. A very respectable 157 was required for victory. Yelverton were soon in trouble thanks to some excellent pace and length from Archer (4-0-20-2) & was supported well by all the other Cornwood bowlers.Yelverton finished 24 runs short of the target with just 1 wicket remaining at the end of 20 overs with Turner remaining 77 not out. The superb venue and warm welcome from the opposition as well as excellent late Spring evening weather made for a most enjoyable evening for everyone. What was most evident was not special performances from certain individuals, but the fantastic team spirit and sense of fun that was demonstrated by both teams.

Plympton won the toss and invited Whitchurch to bat. This seemed to have been a good shout with Whitchurch struggling to cope with the bowling of Howourth (4-0-12-0) and Garforth (4-2-4-1) only making 18-1 after 8 overs. However a steady partnership between Northmore (36*) and Cummings (25) gave Whitchurch a final total of 82 for 5 wickets. Plympton were never up with the required run rate and a very slow start by Outtram (2) and Queen (1) only put pressure on the later batsmen with Kisby (3-0-5-0) and Twine (4-1-14-1) keeping things tight. Only Gunn-Colling (15) and Smith (12) looked like batsmen that may have been able to have made a chase of the total. Cummings (4-0-14-3), Nothmore (2.3-0-8-3) & Alford (4-1-10-2) took the other wickets. Lloyd sustained a back injury and only completed 2 of his 4 overs but still gained the fielding award for Plympton due to his determination.
